With both men leading the film, Harrison Ford was a little bit insecure that Tommy Lee Jones might steal the spotlight from him. Director Andrew Davis talked about Ford’s insecurity in an issue of Empire Magazine and how the actor was a little “gun-shy” of Lee Jones.

“Harrison was a little gun-shy about Tommy. He thought he might take over the movie and, well, he did win the Academy Award. But Harrison has said since that working with Tommy was a highlight of the film.”

Tommy Lee Jones did win the Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role while Harrison Ford did not even receive a nomination for his role in the movie. Having a plethora of movies that were blockbusters and some underrated duds, Harrison Ford has some regrets about turning down certain roles. The actor, however, turned down an opportunity that could have gotten him an Oscar back in 2005!

Syriana is a 2005 movie that featured Matt Damon and George Clooney in the lead roles. Based on the story of Bob Barnes (George Clooney) who discovers that the CIA had been using him as a pawn, the actor naturally won an Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. In an interview with the Irish Examiner, Clooney revealed that he wished that he could have portrayed the role of Clooney.

“I saw a bit of (director) Steve Gaghan’s movie Syriana and I wish I’d played the part that was offered to me – George’s part.–I didn’t feel strongly enough about the truth of the material and I think I made a mistake.”

He further continued,

“I think the film underwent some changes and I think a lot of it is very truthful. The things that I thought weren’t, were obviated after I left the table.”

Despite spending decades in Hollywood, the actor has been only nominated for an Oscar once and has never won it. However, his insecurity about Tommy Lee Jones will always be iconic. The 1993 film The Fugitive is available to stream on Apple TV.
