Harrison Ford’s romantic life turned around for the better at the 2002 Golden Globe Awards when he crossed paths with Calista Flockhart. After dating for several years, the couple tied the knot in 2010. During the recently concluded Critics Choice Awards, Ford was bestowed the honorary Career Achievement Award. In his acceptance speech, he teared up while mentioning Flockhart, and it appears that the Ally McBeal actress brings out the softer side of the Hollywood tough guy.
Flockhart also jokingly revealed one reason behind this side of the actor. Before his marriage to Flockhart, Ford had been married twice and had four children from those marriages. Ford and Flockhart are parents to their adoptive son, Liam Flockhart Ford.
Harrison Ford’s Wife’s Secret To Bring Out His Soft Side
Harrison Ford has had a career filled with roles where he played the tough guy hero, such as Indiana Jones and Blade Runner. Ford took on some physically challenging roles, even performing some life-threatening stunts during his prime. These efforts from Ford resonated with many fans, who hailed him as the quintessential masculine figure in Hollywood.
However, when he was awarded the Career Achievement Critics Choice Award, fans surprisingly witnessed tears in his eyes as the 81-year-old actor thanked his wife, Calista Flockhart. When Flockhart appeared on Live with Kelly and Mark, this emotional moment became a topic of discussion. Host Kelly Ripa opened the topic, noting that Flockhart brought out the “soft puppy dog side” of Ford.
In response, the Brothers & Sisters actress whispered softly to Ripa, “I have something. He’s afraid of me.” The whole room, including Ripa and her husband & co-host Mark Consuelos, erupted into laughter at this humorous revelation. Flockhart also couldn’t contain her smile for long. After the hilarious moment, she reflected on Ford’s honorary award and acceptance speech. She told Live with Kelly and Mark:
“It’s an emotional thing, you know. His body of work is so incredible, and it’s so well-deserved, so yeah. I’m very proud of him and happy for him.”
The Last Shot actress also revealed her favorite among her husband’s work. While she had several favorite movies, her top pick was the 1986 drama film, The Mosquito Coast. She also revealed loving Ford in Working Girl because his character in the movie was funny. She shared that the Star Wars actor was “surprisingly” funny in real life as well.
Harrison Ford Thanked Calista Flockhart For Her “Support”

Ford was visibly emotional as he started his speech, and his voice began to break as he mentioned his wife. He thanked her for her support during a time when he needed it the most. Ford shared at the awards ceremony:
“I want to thank my lovely wife, Calista Flockhart, who supports me when I need a lot of support. And I need a lot of support.”
The Supergirl actress was also seen emotional when her husband mentioned her in his speech. The Fugitive actor also thanked all the “wonderful writers, directors, and filmmakers” who helped him reach this position. Ford also shared that he was happy to see “all of the talented people who are getting opportunities that probably wouldn’t have existed in the early part of my career.”
Harrison Ford has no immediate plans to retire from his Hollywood career, as he starred in the AppleTV+ show Shrinking and the Yellowstone spinoff 1923 on Paramount+. Ford is also set to make his Marvel debut as Thaddeus Ross in Captain America: Brave New World.
