The new trailer shows Deadpool and Wolverine jumping through a portal in a brief shot, which looks similar to the ones conjured by sorcerers like Doctor Strange and Wong. It might be the connection fans have been looking for, for the long-awaited union of MCU with the 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movies.

So where are Deadpool and Wolverine headed to? This theory might be the answer.

Deadpool and Wolverine are calling for backup

Deadpool & Wolverine will be the first movie to officially introduce mutants into the main MCU. They were already teased in the post-credit scene of The Marvels, and there are a number of theories running around on social media sites about how they will be introduced. The portal shown in the newest Deadpool & Wolverine trailer might hold the answer.

The magical portal conjured by an unknown sorcerer might be the duo’s call for help, and they are escaping to a universe where they can get backup. Specifically, the X-Men’s dimension.

This might lead to a confrontation similar to the one we’ve seen in Avengers: Endgame, where all the MCU heroes team up to defeat Thanos and his forces. In this case, it might be Deadpool, Wolverine, and the X-Men from other dimension(s) against the new threat.

There is also a possibility that they are escaping to a dimension where they’ve already gathered their own variants, in a bid to defeat Cassandra Nova, the overarching antagonist of the film. However, another question remains, who actually conjured up the portal?

Who is the sorcerer behind the portal?

Deadpool & Wolverine will feature a number of cameos and easter eggs, and a lot of them can be seen in the trailer itself. When we see Deadpool and Wolverine trying to escape, the portal they are jumping into looks exactly like the ones conjured by the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj. While most fans would think that it is Doctor Strange or one of his variants, the reality might be far from it.

Aside from Doctor Strange, we only know of one recurring sorcerer who can open gateways like these: the current Sorcerer Supreme Wong. As shown at the end of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Wong was seen assembling heroes to prepare for a formidable threat. It might be for Cassandra Nova in Deadpool 3. Strange, after his multiverse-shattering trip in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, may not be psychologically prepared to go through other universes again, especially after witnessing Wanda’s demise.
