Deadpool 3 is expected to be among the most highly anticipated films of the year, and it seems that each new piece of information released raises the level of excitement. Well, recently, fans have been buzzing with speculation about one scene, in particular, from the trailer, which could have a connection to Brett Ratner’s X-Men: The Last Stand (2006).
Fans may recall that after unleashing the Phoenix and destroying everything in her path, Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) was killed by Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) in the 2006 flick. For a brief while, Jean regained control and begged Wolverine to use his claws to kill her. Wolverine was, thus, plagued by guilt for killing the woman he loved.
Now, the Deadpool 3 scene, in question, suggests that this variant of Wolverine failed to take out Jean Grey in time, resulting in the X-Men’s demise. But what if the backstory of this scene is darker and more complex than we first realized?
The threequel by Shawn Levy features Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Jackman as Wolverine, who was last seen in the 2017 flick, Logan.
Hugh Jackman’s Possible Connection to Jean Grey in Deadpool 3?
One Hugh Jackman scene from the Deadpool 3 trailer has sparked speculation about a diabolical backstory that could intertwine the tragic events of X-Men: The Last Stand with Jean Grey’s fate.
Fans have long speculated about the consequences of Wolverine’s actions in Brett Ratner’s 2006 film when he was unable to prevent Jean Grey from succumbing to the dark forces (the Phoenix) within her. This failure eventually led to the deaths of several of his fellow X-Men, including beloved characters such as Cyclops and Professor X.
However, in the context of the Deadpool 3 trailer, it seems that this particular variant of Wolverine may have let his world down in a major way. The consequences of his inaction are significant, and his guilt and regret are palpable, as fans speculate:
This Wolverine let his world down.
I bet this Wolverine variant didn’t take out Jean Grey soon enough, which resulted in the death of the X-Men 👀#DeadpoolAndWolverine pic.twitter.com/6KKbG1Az3u

Theory:
What if this Wolverine variant couldn’t bring himself to kill his Jean Grey during The Last Stand and that’s how he ultimately “let down his entire world” #DeadpoolAndWolverine pic.twitter.com/hWOf8RHhBl

this is the wolverine that kills the entire x-men because his mind was controlled by my guess is cassandra nova

I think it’s the same wolverine but I could be wrong.

But wouldn’t Jean have ripped him apart regardless if he’s made out of Admantium or is he that strong to survive what Jean did?

Maybe he killed everyone for Cassandra Nova, showing how capable and menacing she is. Like she could probably kill everyone just like Charles, but made Logan do it.

I think his more tied to Cassandra Nova than Jean Grey

Obviously, all of this is speculation at this point. We will not find out the real narrative until the movie is out in the summer. But the idea of combining an iconic X-Men storyline with the witty and irreverent world of Deadpool is undeniably appealing.
Anticipation for the third Deadpool film is very high. The first trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine broke the record for the most-viewed movie trailer within a 24-hour period, surpassing Spider-Man: No Way Home, with an astounding 365 million views in just 24 hours (per Variety).
The film is directed by Shawn Levy and features Emma Corrin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Matthew Macfadyen, and Morena Baccarin.
Deadpool 3: The New Trailer Depicts a Depressed Wolverine
Hugh Jackman is making a comeback to the silver screen as Wolverine alongside Ryan Reynolds in the upcoming movie Deadpool & Wolverine, following his last appearance as X-Men in the 2017 film Logan.
Additionally, the film’s latest second trailer contains more details about Jackman and Reynolds’ multiverse journey. In the first scene of the trailer, Logan goes to a bar to find comfort, but the bartender turns him away. This Wolverine appears to be going through a lot of internal turmoil, as evidenced by the trailer, to the point where he can not even use his iconic claws due to unsettling regrets and feelings of resignation from the past.
Later in the teaser, it becomes clear that this version of Wolverine is haunted by the memory of having let his entire world down. Logan sneers at Deadpool, saying, “I am no hero”, in response to Deadpool’s desperate plea for Wolverine to save him because he is an X-Men.
In addition to featuring a dejected Wolverine and a desperate Deadpool, the trailer also revealed the first official glimpse of Cassandra Nova, the movie’s possible antagonist. There have been rumors that Emma Corrin will play the movie’s main antagonist. However, this has yet to receive official confirmation from the studio.
Deadpool & Wolverine is scheduled for release on July 26, 2024.
Also, X-Men: The Last Stand is streaming on Disney Plus.
