With around 10,000 eligible voting members across 18 branches, the Academy operates with a unique system. Each branch nominates for its specific category: editors pick editors, actors choose actors, and so on. But note that the four branches don’t represent specific award categories.

These include casting directors, executives, marketing and public relations, and the recently set-up production and technology branch.

This year’s awards season is gearing up for some cinematic fireworks, with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie in a tug-of-war for the top honors. However, the real buzz on social media suggests that one actor is emerging as the people’s champion for Best Actor.
