Ever since the major fiasco of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that unraveled amongst both the audience as well as the box office, a third installment in the film’s franchise has been out of the question at large. But Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: No Way Home changed the perception of almost the entire Marvel fandom as fans started to demand The Amazing Spider-Man 3, and that too, with Andrew Garfield.

Peter Parker’s character which was previously owned only by Sony Pictures Entertainment, has been integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the failure of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, so whether or not fans will get the third part in the foreseeable future, majorly depends on Kevin Feige and his further plans for the MCU.

But fans are vividly adamant about Andrew Garfield taking over the lead if at all the film does happen, which is why a lot also depends on whether the English actor is willing to return to the film, which from the looks of it, might be a little difficult.

Andrew Garfield reportedly isn’t ready to trust Sony Pictures

The main reason why Andrew Garfield may or may not agree to work in The Amazing Spider-Man 3 in case it happens in the future, is related to the brief conflict that unfolded between him and Sony, the company that was the sole owner of the superhero character and films before 2015.

The reason why The Amazing Spider-Man franchise didn’t get a reboot wasn’t just due to the disappointing and poor performance of the second film. Rumors claim that part of the reason why Garfield stopped depicting the character on screen was also due to the unsavory dispute that took place between him and Sony. Back in 2014, when a string of e-mails was leaked following a hack in Sony’s system, it was revealed that The Social Network actor was allegedly fired from the company as he was unable to attend an important social event because he was ill.

And now, as chatter about The Amazing Spider-Man 3 continues to spread over social media, a new rumor has come forth about the film which claims that the Breathe star is still not willing to place his faith in the hands of Sony, especially if it involves him playing Spider-Man in the third part of the 2012 movie.

“Andrew still doesn’t trust Sony. Bad news.”

People are speculating Garfield is not ready to gamble Spider-Man’s future with Sony at the helm of things, mainly because of the company’s apparent inability to handle a film’s franchise responsibly enough, as a result of which the movie ends up as a massive flop instead.

Will Andrew Garfield return as Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man 3?

Fans are convinced that if there is one thing that is holding the Hacksaw Bridge actor back from reprising the role of Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man 3, it’s the fear of the film being absolutely obliterated by Sony, as has been the case with many other projects including The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Morbius starring Jared Leto and Matt Smith which was released earlier this year, to name a few.

However, since the reins of the Spider-Man franchise are also partly in the hands of Marvel Studios, sources claim that Garfield might just return for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 given Marvel too is majorly involved with the film, thereby reducing the chances of Sony mishandling the movie’s franchise yet again.

At the end of the day though, nothing can be said for sure about Garfield’s return or even if the movie itself is likely to happen. So all one can really do is hope for the best.
