2024 is going to be a quiet year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Marvel Studios plans to only release one movie, Deadpool 3, this year. However, Kevin Feige and his team have a lot of action and drama stored in the pipeline for 2025.

Both Anthony Mackie’s Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts are scheduled to be released in the first half of 2025. As things stand, apart from Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross featuring in both movies, there’s little connection expected between the two stories.

However, a Reddit user has suggested an interesting crossover idea that would connect the two movies by bringing Avengers against Thunderbolts.

How Anthony Mackie’s Captain America 4 May Lead to Civil War II

Anthony Mackie‘s Sam Wilson, who embraced the role of Captain America in the television series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, will assume greater responsibility in Captain America: Brave New World, the first solo movie based on the character, who may lead MCU’s new Avengers team.

Harrison Ford‘s Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross will be president of the United States in the movie. Now, as per the Reddit theory, he could play a big part in the fight between Avengers and Thunderbolts.

Thunderbolts will bring Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine, Ghost, Red Guardian, Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes (a.k.a Winter Soldier), US Agent, and Taskmaster together. The group of anti-heroes, inspired by Marvel Comics’ Thunderbolts, are recruited to go on missions for the government. Ross will be involved in this project as well.

As per Reddit user homodemiks, Captain America and Ross could find each other at loggerheads, leading to him giving the green light for the formation of the Thunderbolts to stop them. This won’t be a new experience for Thunderbolts members, who have previously faced members of the Avengers in different MCU storylines.

Civil War II in Thunderbolts Cannot Be Comic-Accurate

For the supposed crossover the film may adapt some ideas from Marvel Comics’ Civil War II. The user added that since there are rumors concerning Civil War II taking place before Avengers: The Kang DynastyThunderbolts could prove to be the ideal opportunity to pit heroes against heroes.

Marvel writers will have to get creative when transforming Marvel Comics’ Civil War II ideas for the MCU. In the comic, Iron Man, Captain Marvel, and their respective allies face each other when a precognitive Inhuman, Ulysses Cain, emerges.

However, since Inhumans haven’t been established enough in the ongoing franchise to take part in Civil War II and Iron Man is already dead following his sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame, it won’t be possible for Marvel Studios to produce a comic-accurate narrative for Brave New World and Thunderbolts. A lot of reimagining would be needed to make the said theory a reality in the MCU.
