Amidst the hype, Starr dropped a rather disappointing news about his character in the game. Starr confirmed that he’s not voicing his character, Homelander, in Mortal Kombat 1. The confirmation was given by him through an Instagram comment, but since no other source from NetherRealm Studios has confirmed or denied it, fans are hopeful that Starr might just be trolling the fans.

Mortal Kombat 1‘s The Kombat Pack adds six new characters to the roster, including Omni-Man who was made available a few days back, and five other characters coming next year. As excited as they are for all of the announced characters to arrive in the game, fans of The Boys series were especially looking forward to the addition of Homelander. Fans were particularly excited to hear Antony Starr reprising his role in Mortal Kombat 1 as Homelander in the fighting game developed by NetherRealm Studios.

Fan’s excitement was short-lived, however, as Starr replied to a fan on Instagram when a fan tagged Starr and asked him if he was voicing his Homelander character in Mortal Kombat 1 to which Starr directly replied “Nope“. The confirmation disappointed a lot of fans who were already divided over whether or not the character of Homelander in the game would do justice to the actual character.

Several fans were of the opinion that it would be a huge task to find someone who can voice the character as well as Starr himself. The news about Starr not voicing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1, however, is yet to be confirmed or denied by Ed Boon, the Creative Director of NetherRealm Studios, or anyone else from the studio. For this reason, some believe Starr might just be trolling the fans.

Mortal Kombat 1 Won the Best Multiplayer Game at the Golden Joystick Awards

Mortal Kombat 1 could still be a strong contender at The Game Awards next month.
Mortal Kombat 1 could still be a strong contender at The Game Awards next month.

The Golden Joystick Awards 2023 was held a couple of days back on the 10th of November, and all of the categories and winners surprised fans as expected. While the list of winning games gave everyone an idea of the titles that might be strong contenders at The Game Awards next month, fans were left a lot surprised about Mortal Kombat 1 winning the Best Multiplayer Game.

Mortal Kombat 1 beat Street Fighter 6, which several fans were pinning their hopes on, to win the title, especially since Mortal Kombat 1 faced heavy criticism. One of the many reasons for Mortal Kombat 1‘s poor reviews included the roster missing many classic fighters and the story itself which looked quite unfinished.

The game also faced backlash for its aggressive monetization, including the latest paid Halloween Fatality which requires 1,200 Dragon Crystals. 1,250 Dragon Crystals in the game cost $10, and players are furious about having to cough up extra cash for the fatality even after paying the full price for the game.

With the game getting all the backlash and the criticism from both critics and fans, and Starr not voicing the Homelander character in the game’s DLC pack, NetherRealm Studios might have missed a chance to regain fan support. On the other hand, if Starr indeed ends up pulling a fast one and voicing his character in the game, it could still be a salvaging point for the title.

It could be a while before gamers get an official confirmation from the studio since the Kombat Pack DLC’s remaining characters aren’t expected to arrive in Mortal Kombat 1 anytime soon. Among the other familiar faces in the Kombat Pack, a lot of the fanbase is also looking forward to Peacemaker making his debut in the game.

There should be more official announcements about the remaining characters in the game closer to the release date of the DLC pack next year.
