Five years have passed in a blink since Apex Legends came into existence. Now it is entering a new era with season 20, Apex Legends: Breakout, today. The battle royale game has garnered 130 Million users from across the globe and the numbers just keep getting better. Alongside the new Legends Upgade, the team has made some changes with Ranked experience, something that will be familiar to veteran players.
Since the game’s inception, 24 Legends have joined the roster of which eight debuted with the first season. To keep the adrenaline high, the Mix Tape feature will allow players to engage in the latest rotating mode. The game shares the same universe as the studio’s Titanfall series which is established in a distant future. Furthermore, players can follow the Outlands storyline too. The series has garnered nearly 6 Million views across video sharing platform YouTube.
Breakout Will Keep Things Even
The Legends Upgrade enhances armors and abilities to stand out during the matches. Players can choose the ability that’s fitting to their play style as well as what the battlefield demands. Interestingly, the Ranked mode is now more difficult, but also more rewarding to the players. There are bonuses for kills, match placement, and performance. To keep things even, progress will be resent to 1RP.
Breakout is introducing a limited-time mode called Straight Shot where 10 squads can compete to get on the top. There will be fast ring rounds but no jumpmasters with a small map to keep the gameplay faster and more interesting. Moreover, the new update will also allow players to experience Apex Legends in 120 FPS. To make the experience more realistic, haptics and adaptive triggers are added to it.
The game is among the most popular titles in esports with the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) now successfully running for four years. This year will offer a chance to win teams $4 Million spread across three championships. ALGS Year 3 garnered 47.9 Million of watch-time, becoming Global Series’ most viewed event.

Celebrity collaborations are becoming a trend in the gaming industry with celebrities like Ariana Grande, Travis Scott, Lil Nas X, and more appearing in virtual concerts. Fortnite‘s collaboration with Travis Scott remains the biggest virtual concert to this date which garnered 45 Million views. Apex Legends announced a collaboration with rapper Post Malone last year who is also a long-time fan of the game.
During the Game Awards 2023, it announced a crossover with Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7. Furthermore, it brought three characters, Horizon, Crypto, and Wraith, into the battle royale. Moreover, Square Enix debuted the game’s theme song “No Promises to Keep” around that time.
Critics have received Apex Legends well with some calling it among the best takes in the battle royale genre. As Breakout is going live, players should brace themselves for the new era of Legends.
