The Game Awards 2023 was filled with tons of announcements and game reveals and one of those announcements that no one saw coming was the Apex Legends x Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth crossover.
That’s right! As surprising as it may sound Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is coming to Apex Legends with a new crossover event that too ahead of its official release and will take the players on a new adventure with exciting new cosmetics and rewards.
Apex Legends x Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Crossover Announced at the Game Awards 2023
Respawn Entertainment and Square Enix announced the crossover with a cinematic trailer at The Game Awards 2023 and not much has been revealed at the time other than that the crossover event will begin on January 9, 2023, ahead of the official release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on 29 February 2024 got PlayStation 5 which also grabbed the award for Most Anticipated Game at the event.
The announcement has got the fans hyped up as they eagerly await the crossover to claim exciting new skins and other rewards based on FF7 Rebirth. Apex Legends has had several small crossovers in the past such as Portal and Half-Life and skins from popular anime have also been made available such as One Piece.
However, this new crossover event could end as the biggest ever for the game. The community has been pumped with the recent Post Malone event which has proved to be a massive success. The event brought a new time-limited mode called Three-Strikes, new “Iconic” tier cosmetics, Camo credits, and more. The players are now excited to see what new the FF7 Rebirth event brings.
The cinematic trailer begins with Horizon saying, “The future has the power to change anything, even the past,” and showcases Horizon, Wraith, and Crypto inspecting a mysterious sword stuck in the ground that seems to be Cloud’s Buster Sword. After Crypto pulls out the sword, he’s seen in a Cloud-inspired outfit and shows off his slick fighting moves with the sword.
As per the trailer, three skins are confirmed to arrive in the game Horizon, Crypto, and Wraith since they are seen donning new outfits in the trailer. Crypto showing off sword-fighting skills also suggests that the Buster Sword could appear as an in-game weapon or could be used in some capacity or there could be an FF7 Rebirth-inspired skin for Crypto’s Biwon Blade Heirloom.
There could be a new limited-time mode as well since Respawn gives players new modes from time to time and although it seems unlikely because the event seems like a collection event, it can be outright dismissed. Exact details about the upcoming event are still out but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating how they could be treated within the game with a data miner claiming that six legends would be getting FF7 Rebirth skins.
Apex Legends is currently in Season 19 and brought a new legend Conduit so the legend could also get a skin It is also not certain yet how these skins will be made available for players. There are chances that players would need to get the new skins from the in-game shop using Apex Coins, but nothing can be said until the developer provides new information on the crossover event.
The crossover event was announced as part of a reveal of the FF7 Rebirth as Square Enix debuted the game’s theme song “No Promises to Keep,” written by Kazushige Nojima, composed by Nobuo Uematsu, and performed by Loren Allred. The song became more special for the audience with a live performance, showcasing several exciting moments of the game. The theme song trailer features Aerith singing the song herself and also introduces new characters.
