Jason Momoa is all set to reprise his role as the mighty Aquaman in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom which will be one of big releases this holiday season. Apart from being one of the most anticipated films of the year, Aquaman 2 has also courted quite a bit of controversy. There have been questions regarding Amber Heard’s role after her public divorce trial with Johnny Depp, along with reports of Momoa’s unpleasant demeanor on set.
Now, the first clip from the film which features Momoa’s Aquaman involved in an intense duel with Black Manta, is creating a stir online but not in a positive way. According to netizens who did not seem impressed with what they saw, Aquaman 2 could become one of the biggest failures in history.
Jason Momoa’s Aquaman 2 Is Already Doomed After Initial Reactions Online
Despite receiving mixed reviews upon release, 2018’s Aquaman starring Jason Momoa was a big grosser at the box office, and took the honors for becoming the highest-earning DCEU film. In addition, Momoa’s towering presence as the titular protagonist was universally appreciated. The sequel though, which is set to release on December 22nd, 2023, is facing a few hurdles.
Along with being one of the most awaited films of the year, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is also tackling its share of criticisms before hitting the big screen. The first significant clip from the film which dropped online, shows Momoa’s Aquaman taking on the antagonist Black Manta in a high-stakes duel.
Unfortunately, this frenetic fight hasn’t impressed a few netizens who have taken to social media to give their opinions on the brief video. Apart from branding the film as potentially the biggest flop in history, a few viewers also admitted that the clip did not impress them enough to go watch the film.

With such harsh flak being hurled at Aquaman 2 before its big release, it now remains to be seen if Jason Momoa’s charismatic presence can work wonders for the film.

Did Jason Momoa Give Amber Heard Hell On Aquaman 2 Set?
Aquaman 2 has been ridden with controversy right from the outset and one of the main reasons was the alleged toxic atmosphere surrounding the two lead actors, Jason Momoa and Amber Heard. Heard, who was in the middle of a very publicized divorce trial with Johnny Depp, reportedly claimed that her co-star Momoa used this event to take brutal digs at her.
According to notes that belonged to Heard’s therapist, the Game of Thrones star wanted to get her fired and did everything in his capacity to do so, including dressing up as Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow and insulting Heard in a drunken stupor. A spokesperson for DC though, completely denied these accusations against the DC star and told Variety,
“Jason Momoa conducted himself in a professional manner at all times on the set of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. And he isn’t dressing like Johnny Depp. He has always dressed in that bohemian style.”
The source added that, contrary to reports, both Momoa and Heard were pictured having a good and pleasant time on set, while also stating that the actor has never arrived drunk for work.
