Announced almost two years ago at the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase in 2022, Ara: History Untold quickly grabbed the attention of the gaming industry with its literate history concept. Now, during Developer Direct 2024 on Microsoft’s console, those looking forward to the strategy video game finally have more footage in the form of a brand new trailer.
Developed by Oxide Games, the title is scheduled for release sometime later this year, but the teaser shown during the console’s big event should definitely be exciting for fans of turn-based games.
Just four months ago, Microsoft’s console revealed the deep dive footage for Ara: History Untold, showcasing what players should expect from the upcoming title, but it has actually unleashed more information about the game in all its historical glory.
Xbox Developer Direct Sheds Some More Light on Ara: History Untold
During the Developer Direct 2024 stream on the official channel of Microsoft’s console, Oxide Games officially revealed a brand new trailer for History Untold that showcased a lot more about what players can expect from the upcoming video game. The event was held to show “some of the highly anticipated games” coming to Microsoft’s consoles and PCs, as the presentations were provided by the developers of each game themselves.
Oxide’s new title was one of the major highlights of the digital event, as fans had been waiting for almost two years to see more about the strategy game.
The event showcased various upcoming titles, including Obsidian’s Avowed and the new video game in the iconic Indiana Jones franchise, as well as a fresh title called Senna’s Saga: Hellblade II. It seems that Microsoft’s console players are definitely in good hands with such varied games coming out later this year, ranging from the survivor genre to the turn-based grand strategy world of gaming.
Even the industry giant Square Enix participated and showed off its latest title, Visions of Mana, so fans of Microsoft’s console definitely have a great year ahead of them.
Oxide is already known for creating a lot of strategy video games in the past, and History Untold is set to push the genre forward in the most compelling way possible. The game presents a “deep system” that encourages “exploration” and the “unique perspectives” of the players that are not just limited to the developing team. According to the developers, “players will truly feel like they occupy the world” as they rule the in-game land with a Prestige system.
From pursuing arts and culture to science, the choice lies with the player, as the game focuses on architectural monuments and historical moments throughout humanity’s history. Ara is set to be different than other 4X games by utilizing international trade and much more when it comes to the strategy genre, as all players actions resolve at the same time, which makes the game feel more real.
Oxide hopes for the title to not be boring at any point or slow down, as there is always something for its gamers to do.
Oxide will introduce much more dangerous wildlife, like cougars, to keep things interesting when it comes to the threat levels in the game. The developer will release the title on PC and its Game Pass in fall 2024.
