Charlize Theron is the epitome of women empowerment, and bullies like Steven Seagal need to beware. The Academy-winning actress, who gained prominence with some of her kick**s roles, from playing a serial killer in Monster; nailing the role of Imperator Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, to playing Andy in The Old Guard, is known for performing her own stunts in movies.
The South African actress previously called out Russian actor and martial artist, Steven Seagal, during the promotion of The Old Guard, referring to him as a bully and an overweight. The actress claimed that she detected flaws in the so-called black belt martial artist’s style, expressing that its women who saved the action genre and gave it a facelift.
Charlize Theron Re-Defined Action Genre
Charlize Theron, known for performing her own stunts in her films, is every bully’s nightmare. While action heroines like Geena Davis and Sigourney Weaver did make an impact in the action genre, it’s only recently that women are portrayed as strong characters rather than being hyper-sexualized on-screen.
Theron is one actress who helped make action heroines an equal part of the movie industry. Well, there’s a reason why the lady thinks it’s women who saved the genre. During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Theron slammed Steven Seagal, who has a reputation for sexual misconduct and said:
“Listen, I have no problem talking sh*t about him because he’s not very nice to women so f*** you. It makes me feel good about just knowing that we’ve changed that industry as a whole. I feel like the genre has definitely had a facelift and I feel like women have been a huge part in that.
I feel like women have kind of stepped up in the genre and made it fun again and not made it just part of this one conversation where it’s like oh, women can’t fight like men. Well, we don’t want f*cking fight like men. We want to fight like we would fight and figure out what that looks like.”
Theron made it loud and clear that women do not need to fight like them because they’re better than them. The actress also recalled how she watches fight videos before preparing for her movie stuns. She meant that women want to fight in a way that makes sense, and not flip dudes like Seagal does on-screen while the black belt martial artist can’t push one in real life.
Charlize Theron Could Smack Down Steven Seagel
Charlize Theron also claimed during the same interview that she could easily take down martial artist, Steven Seagal. The Bombshell actress, who is loaded with accolades, revealed that she closely studied Seagal’s fight scenes and claimed that she could exploit him. The Old Guard actress said:
“When I make a movie like this, at night I’ll go online just to watch fighters or watch people fight, You always come across that odd Seagal video of him fighting in Japan but he really isn’t.
He’s just incredibly overweight and pushing people. He’s overweight and he barely fights. Look it up. It’s ridiculous. He’s just shoving people in the face. It’s like a whole setup.”
Charlize Theron is more than justified in knocking down Seagal, and if they ever step in the ring, Theron indeed holds a fair chance, also because Seagal is 70 now. Having said that, her anger towards the actor is justified. Even though Seagal did a lot to spread Aikido in America, as a human, he is just an abusive, narcissistic sociopath.
The Hard to Kill actor has been accused of sexual harassment and misconduct by several women like Julianna Margulies, Jenny McCarthy, and Portia de Rossi. In 2018, Seagal was accused of rape, by an extra, named Regina Simons, during the filming of On Deadly Ground. She was just 18. Beware, Seagal, because Theron’s already had a heated one with Tom Hardy!
