An Overview of What Arizona Sunshine Fans Have Been Waiting For

Arizona Sunshine 2 environment.
Arizona Sunshine’s rugged environment is a huge draw for players and the game’s popularity

Ever since the original Arizona Sunshine released 7 years ago, fans have been dying to go back and play the titular character, simply called Fred. In the original game, Fred and 2 fellow survivors find themselves in the midst of a crazy zombie apocalypse.

In this game, which is made exclusively for VR devices such as MetaQuest, the PlayStation VR, Steam VR, and Pico, you play in first-person crafting unique weapons, running around the desolate Arizona environment, and killing horde after horde of brain-hungry zombies.

Arizona Sunshine starts you off as an unnamed player character (later confirmed by the name Fred in the sequel), waking up in a cave in the Arizona river valley. As he explores and kills zombies that he encounters, he finds a radio hears a lone human voice. Later in the story, the unnamed character is found, thanks to the lingering radio signal, in a town called Sunshine Arizona.

When he finds the radio signal, he realizes no one is there and it was sent automatically. He screams, in frustration, in the radio’s microphone where he is answered by someone. The game ends with you being rescued by a helicopter after battling an intense hoard of zombies before they come.

Now that you’re caught up, let’s discuss the most important part of today’s trailer – the release date. It has been close to 7 years since the release, and fans have been wondering when they’ll see Fred again and it’s finally be revealed.

Get ready to go back because the game is officially releasing on December 7th of this year! Yes, you do not even have to wait 2 months to finally get back to zombie killing and exploring the hot, zombie riddled world of Arizona Sunshine.

If you’re ready to get a head start, you can pre-order the game right here, on Arizona Sunshine’s official website. The game, just like its predecessor, is exclusively made for the VR system, so if you have the PlayStation VR2, the Meta Quest, or the Steam VR, you’re all set to go hunt zombies starting December 7th.

A Brand New Zombie Killing Friend and More Gore In Arizona Sunshine 2

A German Shepard will be joining players in Arizona Sunshine 2
You will have a brand-new friend joining you this time around – a German Shepherd called Buddy!

Almost every great action-packed game has you teaming up with a dog to take down enemies, as well as acting the companion factor to make it easier to progress through the story.

The greats include Dogmeat, the ever helpful German Shepherd seen in the Fallout franchise, Snake’s grizzled military dog D-Dog in the Metal Gear franchise, and Jack’s loyal Malamute named Shadow in the Dead to Rights game.

Now, Arizona Sunshine is joining the trend by teaming up Fred with a new friend – a German Shepherd named Buddy.

The new reveal trailer shows Buddy happily trotting along your side as you shoot, stab, and blow up mobs of the undead, as well as mauling and even killing zombies himself.

Spoilers for the trailer though – if you’re not a fan of seeing hurt animals, this trailer might not be for you. It seems that later on, Buddy does indeed get injured pretty bad and is seen bloodied and battered up on a hospital table.

Besides getting a brand new dog companion, it seems Vertigo Games and Jaywalkers Interactive have upped the gore this time around. On their website it says:

Sharpen your machete and load your shotgun: It’s time to say hello to your old pal, Fred. Arizona Sunshine 2®, the next-gen sequel to the fan-favorite VR apocalypse, packs even more gore-geous zombie action!

Fans of zombie games cite the gore and the way one kills the zombies is a huge reason why they love these games so much, and it seems these devs listened to the fans. Expect more gore, more unique ways of killing zombies (including throwing live grenades in a zombie’s mouth), and more zombies this time around!
