We may be as old as Arthur Morgan by the time Red Dead Redemption 3 comes out, but it will.

  • While an official announcement is missing, Rockstar's focus on Grand Theft Auto 6 pushes any potential Red Dead Redemption 3 well into the late 2020s.

Although Red Dead Redemption 2 may not have bagged the 2018 Game of the Year award, it still continues to hold a special place in players’ hearts with its remarkably detailed open world, beautifully written story, and graphics that hold up well even today.

With over 60 million copies sold, the game’s commercial success has left many fans wondering about the possibility of a third entry in the series, which, according to Arthur Morgan voice actor Roger Clark, is pretty much a guarantee.

Red Dead Redemption 3 Is Happening, But Not Anytime Soon

Speaking with IGN, Clark expressed a strong belief in another mainline Red Dead Redemption title arriving sometime in the future:

I would have thought that was obvious though. Wouldn’t you? And it’s not like I have any insider information whatsoever, but of course there’s going to be another Red Dead.

While there hasn’t been any such announcement from Rockstar Games, the developer behind the Red Dead Redemption series, several factors point towards the eventual arrival of Red Dead Redemption 3.

The franchise’s immense popularity and critical acclaim are almost something the developer would want to capitalize on. Furthermore, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar’s parent company), has publicly acknowledged both Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead as prominent franchises for Rockstar, assuring fans that these series will be revisited in the future.

However, with Rockstar chugging away full-force on GTA 6, which is scheduled for release in 2025, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll hear anything about another Red Dead game until the end of the decade, and that’s if Rockstar decides to make one after GTA 6 at all, instead of a new IP or a potential Bully 2.

Clark Would Love To Return In A Future Red Dead Game

Considering the events of RDR2, Arthur Morgan’s return in a new game is highly unlikely, and even Clark agrees, “But if Arthur Morgan will be involved? I highly doubt it, to be honest. And I think it’s going to be quite some time before we even see a snifter of anything new Red Dead related. I have no idea how it would pan out, but I wouldn’t bet on Arthur being a part of it.

Clark also expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the franchise if Rockstar approached him, stating that if they called him he would “would pick up the phone.” His openness suggests that he might lend his voice in a future Red Dead game, even if it’s a prequel featuring a younger Arthur or a completely new story set in a different time period within the Red Dead universe.

With the immense success of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Take-Two’s public affirmation, the arrival of Red Dead Redemption 3 appears to be a matter of “when” rather than “if.” However, that “when” is a long ways off and shouldn’t be something to build unreasonably high levels of hype on.

Roger Clark’s confidence in the franchise’s future is reassuring, though, and coupled with his eagerness to reprise his role, should be good signs for fans keenly awaiting the next chapter in the Red Dead saga.
