If you have watched Supernatural then you must know that Jensen Ackles is the perfect embodiment of his fictional character Dean Winchester. Self-righteous, reliant, loyal, and a family man through and through is how Ackles is in real life as well. Even in a profession like acting, he tends to maintain those principles, imposing self-restrictions whenever necessary.

So when he was told to do a certain scene during the shoot of his hit TV series The Boys, the actor bluntly refused to film it and had the creator change it instead.

Fans of Supernatural would know under how much ‘creative restrictions’ the show’s actors and writers were due to censorship guidelines. Jensen Ackles, who even gave up multiple A-list roles for the series, had been waiting to break out of those creative restrictions for ages. So when he was offered the chance to be on the show The Boys as the ‘macho’ Soldier Boy, he readily agreed.

Ackles knew what he was signing up for since his character was unlike any he had ever played before. A too-proud alpha male-like character, reckless, unhinged, and arrogant is how most would describe Soldier Boy. Hence, the director and creator Eric Kripke, also the mastermind behind Supernatural, decided to push Ackles as much as he could.

Since the My Bloody Valentine star couldn’t be more excited about the new role, he was willing to be pushed around. However, he had his fill when he was presented with one scene that was way too much for him. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he stated the reason,

“As a father of three, and a son and a husband and a self-respecting human being, I can’t do this. I didn’t know where my line was, but you found it.”

While the details of the scene weren’t revealed to the public, fans applauded Jensen Ackles nonetheless for being a ‘family man’.

When Jensen Ackles called his longtime friend and show’s creator regarding the same, he was met with a laugh. In an interview with On Demand Entertainment, the actor recalled his conversation with Kripke, saying,

“He wasn’t like ‘What do you mean? What do you mean you don’t wanna do this?’ I believe the reaction I got was (laughs).”

Even though Kripke is infamous for doing the exact same thing that his actors tell him not to, this time he had to listen to him and reach a compromise as he stated during a talk with Entertainment Weekly.

“We worked out a compromise where I got what I needed without him destroying his soul.”

Despite that one minor inconvenience of a scene, Jensen Ackles still has been enjoying the show and being pushed to his limits regardless.
