Although it may not always be easy to talk about subjects like s*xual relationships and health, this show was a great example of why it’s necessary for everyone to learn about it at the right age. But when this conversation was happening with his mother, Butterfield suddenly just upped and walked out of the room.

We all have been through our awkward teenage years where most of us don’t know what is happening to us and how our bodies are starting to change. This is the right time for us to have the fabled “The Talk” with our parents. Thankfully, there’s also Netflix’s Sex Education we can turn to gain some more supplementary knowledge.

But unlike what the show teaches us about learning things related to s*xual well-being, the lead star Asa Butterfield didn’t feel like having those conversations with his mother at all.

In a past interview on a podcast (via Hits Radio), the hosts welcomed the Hugo star along with his co-stars Ncuti Gatwa and Emma Mackey on the episode. Here, the conversations naturally flowed to the main point of the show, and the actors were asked about their experiences of having that slightly uncomfortable conversation with their parents.

While both Mackey and Gatwa had interesting stories to tell, Butterfield had none since he literally walked out when his mother was trying to initiate “The Talk” with him. He said:

“My mum definitely tried to reach the topic, and she got about four words into her sentence, and I knew where this was going, and I just left the room immediately. I just walked out of my bedroom, I was not having that conversation.”

Thus, from not having that conversation to literally talking about it all the time for his job, life came full circle for Butterfield in the end.

One of the biggest reasons for the success of the Netflix original series comes down to the way it presents the complex topic related to s*x life and well-being, and teaches us that it’s not that hard to learn when all of it is natural and part of our lives.

Plus, The way the show handles stereotypes and cliches related to these topics and the comic relief that is popular with shows and movies tackling this topic is done in a unique manner without relying too much on the hard and fast structure of the tropes, which brings a breath of fresh air for the younger generation as well as the older to understand.
