Attack on Titan has finally delivered what the fans have been waiting for a long time. After months of waiting, the final episode of Attack on Titan was released on November 5, 2023. For the past decade, the fans have been enjoying a glorious masterpiece. But it was always not the same. The manga ended in 2021, but it was criticized for being rushed. So, Hajime Isayama had to change a few portions of the ending.

He apologised to MAPPA Studios for making them work hard with the changes at the last moment. But the inevitable fate of Eren Jaeger was kept the same. One of the most significant aspects of Attack on Titan is that it is full of twists, and people can hardly predict what will happen next. This signature aspect was maintained until the end, and the last twist was far greater than before.

Attack on Titan’s Ending Left Everyone In Distress

Attack on Titan will be etched into the hearts of its viewers as one of the greatest anime of all time. The finale was a fitting end to a great story. Even though the fans were going through a rollercoaster of emotions, they were distressed after witnessing the horrors that followed the end. Since season 4, Eren Jaeger had a massive character development, and instead of being the protagonist, he shifted towards being an anti-hero.

As the Founding Titan, he released all the Colossal Titans that once formed the walls of Paradis Island. It started the rumbling, and the army of Titan marched towards the destruction of humanity. When Mikasa Ackerman said her goodbyes to Eren Jaeger and dealt the final blow, almost 80% of humanity was gone. After killing Eren Jaeger, Mikasa caught all of his thoughts.

In those thoughts, it was seen that Eren had contacted his friends before the destruction, using his powers. He explained how he wanted them to be the heroes that saved Paradis. He wanted them to be ready for any danger that came in the future and wanted to go complete genocide. While Armin wanted to go down a different path, the power of Attack Titan had messed up his head, so he decided to go down the humanity destruction path.

Eren Jaeger did this to maintain peace in the future when he would not be there. But his dream remained a dream since it was later shown that humanity was constantly at war with itself. Whatever was left after 80% of humankind always fought with each other. Even though there were no Titan powers, there was also no peace. This was a twist that no one saw coming, and it is distressing to think that Eren Jaeger’s sacrifice was all for naught.

First, One Piece’s Monkey D. Luffy’s Gear 5 broke the streaming sites, and now it is the Attack on Titan finale that had crashed Crunchyroll even before it got released. It is still distressing to see our favorite protagonist trying so hard and going so far as to sacrifice himself, but in the end, it was not worth it since humanity never achieved ideal peace. Not even Christopher Nolan could have matched Hajime Isayama’s ending twist.
