Austin Butler has impressed Hollywood with his outstanding acting skills. From working on the small screen to transitioning his way to the big screen, he has surely come a long way. He has worked with many high-profile celebrities before becoming one with his several projects including his highly acclaimed project, Elvis.
But before gaining critical acclaim for playing the role of legendary singer, he showcased his craft by portraying Tex in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. However, his paycheck for the movie is quite less if compared to his co-stars, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt.
Austin Butler’s Salary in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Before captivating the audiences with his Elvis performance, he worked in Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 comedy-drama movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Set in 1969, the movie follows two men who are trying to survive in the ever-changing film industry: Rich Dalton (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) is a fading actor meanwhile the other guy is Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt’s character), an ill-tempered stunt double who acts as Dalton’s chauffeur.
Whereas, Austin Butler portrays the role of Manson Family member Tex Watson, one of the movie’s final antagonists. Tex is a real-life character who was involved in the murder of Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring, and three others at Cielo Drive. In the movie, the character is introduced when Booth arrives at the Spahn Ranch.
Given that the movie had a star-studded cast including Barbie star, Margot Robbie, many would wonder about the paychecks that the actor received for playing the supporting yet significant role in the movie. As per AOL, he received $250,000 for playing the fictionalized version of Tex. Whereas his net worth is reported to be $4 million as per Celebrity Net Worth.
His $250K salary is quite less compared to his co-stars as DiCaprio and Pitt took home $10 million each for their gig as per Variety. However, his low salary didn’t affect the quality he served in the movie. Many might be surprised to know that he chose the movie over working in Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick.
Austin Butler Chose Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Over Top Gun: Maverick
While he has worked alongside A-listers, he had a tough choice to choose between his 2019 work and Tom Cruise’s Top Gun 2. During his appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast via PEOPLE, he confirmed that he was given an offer to screen test for a role in Top Gun: Maverick.
“I ended up having to choose between going to the screen test for Top Gun: Maverick or saying yes to Quentin Tarantino.”
However, he has long been eyeing to work with the legendary filmmaker which eventually helped him in choosing his path.
“I’d already met with him, so I did that.”
Elsewhere, he praised Tarantino for creating a great environment on set before adding that it was his dream to work with him. Meanwhile, the movie ended up getting critical acclaim from moviegoers praising Tarantino’s direction and actors’ performance among other aspects. It also won two of the ten nominations at the 92nd Academy Awards.
