“Avatar: The Last Airbender” is the “Real Avatar” for many fans worldwide. It follows the journey of Aang, the last Airbender, and his friends, as they strive to bring balance to the world by defeating the Fire Lord Ozai and ending the Hundred Year War.
The power of friendship shines through in the story and the series is filled with unforgettable characters and relationships. It is known for its exploration of complex relationships, including the one between Katara and Zuko. While the series ultimately focused on Katara’s romance with Aang and Zuko’s redemption arc, the creators originally considered a different path for these two characters.
Katara And Zuko Were Originally Meant To Be Together
Avatar: The Last Airbender isn’t just about the fight against the Fire Nation. It’s also about the complex relationships that blossom amidst the chaos. At the heart of these relationships also lies a fan pairing of Katara and Zuko. The two played very crucial roles throughout the three original books, Water, Earth, and Fire.
Katara was a determined waterbender from the Southern Water Tribe. On the opposing side stands Zuko, a fire-bending prince consumed by a singular goal: capturing the Avatar. While their paths are totally different, they were both shown to be good at heart.
Even though Zuko initially chased Katara around as an antagonist, they developed a more complex relationship as the series progressed. Scenes like Zuko returning Katara’s necklace and their time together in the Crystal Catacombs are moments enough for fans to interpret as romantic tension.
It seems that fans were not the only ones who were confused over the relationship between the two characters. Even the story writers had initially considered making “Zatara” a reality in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
During Avatar Extras, writers Joshua Hamilton and Katie Mattila discussed some behind-the-scenes details and backstory of the series. One of these included the revelation that Katara and Zuko were originally meant to be together. While Katara eventually married Aang, there is never a fiction without some What If scenario.
Netflix Renewed Avatar: The Last Airbender For Second And Third Season
Starring Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, and Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko, Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender is considered to be not as great as the books or the Nickelodeon animated series. However, it has managed to garner praise for its cast, pacing, and dialogue.
Following the release, Netflix has swiftly greenlit not just a second season, but a third as well. Just like the books, the show will be split into three parts and will conclude after the third season. All eight episodes of the first season can be streamed on Netflix.
