The MCU found themselves in a curveball following Jonathan Majors’ conviction, jeoparding their plans for the multiversal story surrounding Kang. While Marvel’s initial plans regarding the multiversal saga involved building Kang the Conqueror as the next big thing since Thanos, it appears they’re finally abandoning the storyline.

Confirming a February report, Disney revealed that the next Avengers entry will not be titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in the company’s latest investors’ presentation. But fans are left conflicted about the change, as it appears the industry giant is moving on from Kang altogether.

Disney Might Be Abandoning Kang Altogether for Avengers 5

Per THR’s previous report, which initially claimed the movie would be renamed, Disney’s plans reportedly involved either scaling down or eradicating Kang’s presence completely from the movie. But considering how knee-deep MCU is in the multiversal saga, fans felt introducing a new main foe this late into the game would do little to alleviate things. Following this reasoning, recasting Kang seemed the best bet after Jonathan Majors‘ firing, which would’ve allowed MCU to finish the story of the conqueror.

However, with Disney officially shifting away from The Kang Dynasty title, referring to it as Avengers 5 for now (via Boardwalk Times), fans are worried that recasting might be out of the window.

With Deadpool & Wolverine on the horizon, it might give fans an overview of what to expect moving forward. And if the MCU is favoring the replacement route as the report suggested, the upcoming Fantastic Four film, slated for a 2025 release, might introduce the expected new foe for Avengers 5.

MCU’s Apparent Plan to Ditch Kang’s Story Was Reportedly in the Making for a While

While it seems Majors’ conviction last November pushed MCU’s apparent move to stray away from the Kang storyline, it appears this was in the making for a long time. Speaking on the House of R podcast, Joanna Robinson, co-author of MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, claimed MCU was already moving on from the Kang storyline back in November. Robinson revealed the removal of Jeff Loveness, the writer behind Ant-Man 3, who was supposed to pen The Kang Dynasty had to do with Marvel’s apparent plans to move on from Kang.

“I heard from someone recently … the screenwriter Jeff Loveness, who wrote Quantumania, was supposed to write The Kang Dynasty … anyway, it’s confirmed. I had it confirmed to me he’s no longer working for Marvel. I asked the person why, and they said the reason why is he was all wrapped up in this Kang storyline and they are likely going to be moving away from that.”

Although Disney is still officially yet to announce if they’re indeed dropping Kang, following the title change, and considering Loveness’s removal last year, this seems very likely.
