Most Marvel fans have been worried sick to stomach about Kang following Jonathan Major’s dismissal from the Marvel Studios after the actor’s conviction for assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. But Major’s Kang was a big bad in the making for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty

After Kang’s cameo in Loki season 1, the character played a crucial role not just being the villain of Ant-Man & the Wasp in Quantumania but also setting the tone of the potential upcoming projects from Marvel. Now, recent Marvel reports revealed two potential changes for the upcoming MCU flick.

The Infinity Saga had a near-perfect establishment and, of course, a perfect ending with Avengers: Endgame which left fans in awe. Avengers: Endgame was a multiversal treat for fans and the very essence of it was carried forward by the next saga. While the fate of Avengers 5 has been in the dark for far too long following Jonathan Majorsfiring from the studio, a new report may have something as a sigh of relief.

Popular insider, Daniel Richtman recently revealed that the tone of Avengers 5 will not inherently follow its predecessor (via MarvelFilmNews). Further, the report suggests that the movie will be grounded with a multiversal touch. Certainly, street-level Marvel movies have done wonders in the past which includes the Russo Brothers’ acclaimed 2014 hit Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Also, Captain America 4 starring Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America— after Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers retirement following the event of Endgame— has reportedly done the same, a grounded narrative to celebrate street-level characters. This might bode well among fans and as the demand for more grounded narratives has propelled the studio to bring such stories, the upcoming Charlie Cox series Daredevil: Born Again will have a similar essence.

Kang Recast Is The Next Best Solution

The return of Majors is slim to none and Marvel Studios has no interest in getting into potential public backlash again after facing the same delaying his dismissal as they have waited for the verdict. The recent report from Richtman also revealed a potential recast for the character and two talented stars are in the race among many

John David Washington who proved his prowess as an actor by appearing in Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman and Christopher Nolan’s Tenet is reportedly in the mix of actors for Kang. Washington as Kang will certainly have a different vibe to the character but fans are rather excited about another actor.

Colman Domingo could be the next actor to wear the skin of Kang in MCU and fans are quite assured that the Rustin actor who has an Oscar nod to his credit, will pull off the role. The 54-year-old has been impressive over the years. His best roles include Fear the Walking Dead, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, The Color Purple and Sing Sing.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will arrive in theaters on May 1, 2026.
