Modern Family

Halloween costumes in TV shows aren’t just for visual delights, but also somewhat reflect the personality of the character and drive the narrative of the episode. These episodes and costumes aim to infuse the TV show with a sense of nostalgia and lightheartedness. But let’s have a look at some of the most awful costumes we’ve seen on How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family, and The Office.

Slutty Pumpkin from How I Met Your Mother

Naomi’s slutty pumpkin costume was meant to be funny, but it failed to grab people’s attention. The fact that the shape of the costume was odd, coupled with a skirt and green part around the neck, didn’t really work. Besides, it could have been more quirky or funny, given the character was set to re-appear in future episodes.

How I Met Your Mother

Speaking of the story, the episode was a funny Halloween-themed installment that was centered around Ted Mosby’s never-ending search for a mysterious lady dressed as a ‘slutty pumpkin’ who he met at a Halloween party years ago. Filled with the show’s trademark humor, the episode was undoubtedly full of funny one-liners and Ted Mosby’s unpredictable fate.

Mother Teresa Minidress from Modern Family

Although this costume was something no fan would want to pull off, it was still visually hilarious. Seeing Haley Dunphy (Sarah Hyland), who’s known for her mean comments throughout the series, dress up as Mother Teresa “back when she was hot” gave the episode a brilliant touch.

However, it still wasn’t good enough to get the fans excited about trying it for their next Halloween. It was basically a homage to everyone who thinks that adding an accessory to a dress makes it a costume.

Modern Family

As for the story, the episode kicks off at the Dunphy residence, where Claire can be seen very busy with the preparations for Halloween, the only holiday she cares about since Mitchell and Cam have taken over Thanksgiving. One of the funniest scenes in the episode is when Phil’s “severed” hand suddenly reaches up to Luke and scares him.

Katy Perry Costume From The Office

Well, fans might have found the wig going with Kelly’s Katy Perry costume. They might have also liked the small hat, the bow tie, and the polka-dot clown dress. But what didn’t work in its favor was that it was hard to recognize the character at first.

The Office

Many would’ve confused Kelly (Mindy Kaling) as a normal clown with a tiny hat, but definitely not as Katy Perry. Probably, if Kelly had pulled off a more funky dress, as seen in Katy Perry’s music video, it would’ve made more sense.
