Baldur’s Gate 3 was one of the most celebrated titles released in 2023. The game dominated most video game award ceremonies which did wonders for the series’ popularity, and established Larian as one of the best game developers in recent years.
One of the best things about the game is the nuance that is offered by each one of its characters. While some characters are lovable, some are downright repulsive. However, one character was mentioned by the game’s makers in a recent interview because of his striking personality.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Director and Writer Talk About Wulbren Bongle
Baldur’s Gate 3‘s success was enough to rock the industry and even compel toymakers to turn into game companies. After the game’s release, people in the fraternity realized that Indie games could give AAA titles a run for their money, too.
In an interview with GamePressure, the game’s writer, Adam Smith, and director, Swen Vincke, spoke about their experience with the title’s development. One question in the interview was directly about tragic pretense becoming the foundation of comedic relief in games developed by the studio.
Answering the question, He mentioned Wulbren Bongle and stated the following:
I like that character [Wulbren Bongle] a lot because what he’s saying is the kind of thing a hero would say. He’s a liberator, he’s a freedom fighter…..
Smith further added:
But he’s also just a prick...he might want to do some of the same things you, as a heroic player, want to do. And then you see his take on it...and suddenly you question it.
There are several memorable characters in the game. Still, Bongle is memorable for various reasons and stands, and funnily enough, he also got his diss track because of his demeanor and rude behavior. But in the game, we also understand his motivations and why he is the way he is.
Wulbren Bongle: One of the Most Hated Characters in Baldur’s Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3, by all means, sets new standards for the genre and the industry. Also, in a game with such a prosperous world and a dynamic ensemble of characters, people are bound to like and dislike various characters after consulting their temperaments.
However, in the game’s community, Wulbren Bongle gets a lot of flak from almost every player and is unanimously hated for his behavior. When the player encounters Wulbren Bongle at Moonrise Tower, he comes off as incredibly skeptical and bitter.
But he does come along with the players after they reassure him that they do not have any ulterior motives. He also has a certain level of God Complex, which makes the player feel like they only exist to serve him, which is infuriating at first. And that is probably why he gets so much hate and almost universal dislike by fans.
