Few studios know how to improve well on what they have already done in the past; Larian Studios is one of them. Previous projects of Larian Studios include Divinity: Original Sin, a highly acclaimed RPG title that spawned a sequel, all of which were funded through Kickstarter.

The game was amazing and significantly enhanced the studio’s reputation. With all this experience, the studio’s next project was the ultimate RPG game, and that has set new standards. The studio made critical decisions to ensure perfection during Baldur’s Gate 3 development.

The game was launched in Early Access. This resulted in a very useful back and forth between fans and the development team, which later became the complete and astounding title that won Game of the Year. The game’s director stated that quality was critical in making this possible.

The idea to create a new standard for RPG games came from the studio and game director, Swen Vincke, who wanted the team to get to a new level with Baldur’s Gate 3. In a recent interview, he said:

Yes, but we want to be there, right? We want to improve on where we were before. It would be a shitshow if we actually regressed.

Vincke is perfectly aware that the game needed to set a new bar, especially for what this name means to fans. Vincke’s detailing mind wanted to impress players by going back to the classic Western RPGs in a new way that had never been attempted before.

With this IP, Larian Studios made that possible by setting the bar to a never-before-seen standard that will make every game compare itself to it. This director also said:

Okay, we’re just gonna do this on our own thing, create what we think is a good game, we’ll just make that and see how it resonates.

The next game in the studio is already in development. Vincke gave almost no details about what it would be; he said that the team had never done anything like this before. He also mentioned that the game will feature numerous challenges for artists and other areas that will require skill.

The director added that this game is completely new but is in line with what the studio has made before, so fans could expect a new kind of RPG.

I'm a big fan of movies and videogames in general. I really love Pokémon and Godzilla. One of my favorite games is The Last of Us, Part II. A compelling and well-written story is always welcome.
