2023 was a stacked year for video game releases, especially for huge franchises in the form of Diablo 4 and Baldur’s Gate 3. But just because a title garners critical acclaim across the globe, it doesn’t mean that it’ll end up being everyone’s cup of tea. Plenty of gamers make up their minds and decide what game to purchase based on the general consensus of numerous critics and the audience on the Internet, and when they’ve read amazing reviews online, they end up buying them.

It’s only when they try those video games for themselves that they realize that maybe they’ve made a huge mistake.

The PS5 Games That Some People Did Not Enjoy Include Diablo 4

Diablo 4 was one of the most anticipated sequels of 2023, but it ended up being a disappointment for many players.
Diablo 4 was one of the most anticipated sequels of 2023, but it ended up being a disappointment for many players.

A user took to the PS5 subreddit to bring up a very interesting question for the rest of the console’s player community, especially considering how the world only usually talks about the best video games of the year and the most disappointing ones barely get their chance to shine.

They asked their fellow gamers about those special PlayStation 5 titles that they immediately regretted buying, even if they initially looked like a lot of fun as far as their trailers and gameplay footage were concerned.

In the responses that followed, Diablo 4 was mentioned multiple times, which actually comes as a huge surprise because fans had been waiting for a sequel to Blizzard Entertainment’s action RPG hit Diablo 3 for more than a decade.

One of the answers mentioned Diablo 4, as according to the user, only the initial ten “hours were a blast” until they figured out that the game really is not that enjoyable or innovative. They stated that they “didn’t care about the story at all and the game play was just hitting the same 8 button combo over and over again,” which obviously made the title an absolute borefest to get through.

Another user responded to the original question by saying that Blizzard Entertainment’s highly anticipated sequel “was way too hype,” as it did not exactly live up to the expectations of the fans.

Diablo 4 was not the only major surprise on the list of games that players regretted buying, as the title that won the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2023 was also mentioned. A user confessed that Baldur’s Gate 3 did not even look that great to them before they bought it, but because of the “popular opinion” on the Internet constantly stating that Larian Studios’ title is extraordinary, they ended up purchasing it.

Naturally, another user came to its rescue by saying that it can be “difficult” to get into it if one is not familiar with its genre and “the lore behind it.”

Some Other Honorable Mentions Include Obvious Choices like Gollum

Baldur’s Gate 3 may have been the Game of the Year in 2023, but it was not everyone’s cup of tea.

Aside from the surprise inclusions like Diablo 4 and Baldur’s Gate 3, there were obvious choices in the responses as well, with the top one being arguably the worst game of 2023: Gollum. According to a user, they do not know what exactly they were “thinking” when they made the decision to buy the horrendous title that actually looked quite bad just from the trailers alone.

EA FC 24 also got an honorable mention, as fans of Electronic Arts’ FIFA series ended up being disappointed with the rebranded sequel.

Some other honorable but justified mentions paid homage to the DC Universe title Gotham Knights, with a user stating that even after getting it “for free with PS Plus,” they felt like they “wasted” their money. From AEW Fight Forever to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the responses are extremely varied but interesting nonetheless.
