Baldur's Gate 3 has been Beaten... in TEN MINUTES

The fearless speedrunner dedicated himself to beating Baldur’s Gate 3 and managed it in just over ten minutes, setting a remarkable world record among the speedrunner community for that specific game less than two weeks after the official launch. Footage of his incredible achievement was released online at the same time that Baldur’s Gate 3 became the highest-rated PC game of all time, even without many of its players having beaten Act 1.

The Belgian developer, Larian Studios, openly says that Baldur’s Gate 3 is its most ambitious project to date, precisely because it adapts with the greatest possible attention to detail the experience of playing Dungeons & Dragons only on PCs and consoles. That would estimate the first full playthrough through Baldur’s Gate 3 to take at least 75 hours, while a more contemplative player could take up to around 200 hours.

It turns out that those most in a hurry and fans of the practice of speedrun wanted to cause a turnaround and managed to complete the journey in minutes, for that, it was necessary to choose the pre-made character, Gale, the wise human mage, as his character of origin in Baldur’s Gate 3 and the willingness to get involved in some serious shenanigans. More specifically, Canadian speedrunner Mae managed to beat Larian’s RPG at the 10-minute, 3-second mark, including loading times and jumping through all the challenges until arriving at a location near the end of Act 2 where Gale can choose to blast himself beneath the Moonrise Towers, detonating the Netherese Destruction Orb trapped in his chest.

For now, this is the only known way to hit that speedrun mark, avoiding the game’s final boss fight and by extension, the rest of Act 3, which begins when Mae has Gale blow himself up for the good of the realm. Other strategies used were giving Gale Enhance Leap, tripling his jump distance, quickly recruiting Shadowheart, and performing an unstoppable streak of jumps until Act 2. And from there, leveling up for the first time to get a massive health boost and your companion cast Sanctuary, protecting from single-target attacks.

After many jumps, Gale finds himself near the area where he can face his final combat, where Mae has leveled him up for the second and final time, adding Misty Step to the process. The Conjuration spell allows him to teleport past the two bosses guarding locations at the end of Act 2, detonate Gale, and complete the story. For comparison, casual speedrunners, that is, impatient players who only go after the main quest, take approximately 25 hours to finish Baldur’s Gate 3.

The game’s current speedrunning world record now belongs to Canadian Mae, according to third-party tracker Speedrun.net. Now, it’s to be expected that the challenge will spread to the larger online speedrunning communities and that other candidates will try to surpass the feat as they have only just started accepting registrations for Baldur’s Gate 3 speedruns so that players can enjoy the game before to go in search of accelerated completion.

While that’s an impressive mark, you can take your time to create your character and adventure through Faerûn with all your patience. Baldur’s Gate 3 is available now for PC and will launch on September 6th on PS5, with porting to Xbox Series X and S also in development.
