What can we expect from the cutscenes and dialogue?

According to the announcement released by the product manager from Larian Studios, we are currently looking at over 174 hours worth of cinematics, all with dialogue, which will be three times larger than the entire Lord of the Rings novels. This is quite an exciting prospect, especially for a game like Baldur’s Gate 3, which is known for having amazing stories; as Baldur’s Gate shares its name with the Dungeons and Dragons campaign, it is a rather popular title which gives it a lot of pressure to be as full of dialogue and decisions that can shape the story.

As this is a role-playing game, it has an important duty to be full of interesting and unique dialogue options that bring the player’s choices into the game and make every experience different for the gamers; from the look of it, this will not be an issue as there are numerous interactions between the player character and hundreds of non-playable characters throughout the game ensuring that you will constantly have a say in how the world is created around you and that your choices do matter.

From what we can tell, Baldur’s Gate 3 is shaping to be a demanding game regarding graphics and frames per second. The delay is because the developers, Larian Studios, want to utilize the PlayStation 5’s 60 FPS capabilities fully. This should hopefully scale the cinematics to a new level that we have ever seen, even in Metal Gear Solid 5, which has a reputation for incredible cutscenes due to their detail and clean transitions between gameplay and cinematics.

As of right now, we do not know how much of Baldur’s Gate 3 uses cinematics, whether it be the main campaign or whether they are even used during side activities or just regular conversations with your companion characters, but we do know that the cinematics will be long and beautiful to watch. Similar to the cinematics in MGS 5, which had some amazing cutscenes that may have run rather long but had so much detail and acting prowess, making them a pleasure to watch.
