Even ranking better at the fans and critics ranking, across different platforms, Oppenheimer overshadowed pretty much every other film at the Golden Globes Awards as well. Despite this, Christopher Nolan-directed-biographical movie lost to Barbie on the Letterboxd platform. Ranking higher than the critically acclaimed and Oscar-winning South Korean movie, Parasite, Barbie is now the most popular film on the platform.

Greta Gerwig‘s Barbie proved that it is a force not to be reckoned with. Having an extraordinary and unexpected run at the box office, the movie at $1.34 billion is now Warner Bros.’s highest-grossing film as well as the highest-grossing film of 2023 (via ComicBook). A major contender at the award season, it lost to Oppenheimer in every major category at the Golden Globes, despite getting the most nominations (via Golden Globes).

This is a significant victory for Barbie, which despite getting numerous nominations for different awards has not managed to win as well as Oppenheimer. However, on the Letterboxd platform, the film might have left behind the Oscar-winning Parasite, but it still has fewer likes than the South Korean flick.

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie has been watched by 2,810,484 members on the platform and secured a total of 1,219,746 likes. Parasite, on the other hand, has been watched by 3,361,247 members and has 1,949,022 likes. Meanwhile, Oppenheimer has 1,921,002 members and is liked by only 773,712 members.

Barbie may have secured the most popular film spot on Letterboxd, but the movie did not do so well when it came to the platform’s annual 2023 review. Securing a spot in numerous other categories, Oppenheimer fared better in all the other categories the two movies were nominated in together.

As for the highest-rated film category, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ranked first, while the Cillian Murphy flick secured a third spot and its pink contender did not even make it to the top ten list. In the highest-rated North American film, Oppenheimer ranked second while Barbie made it to the tenth and last spot. However, in the most popular film of 2023, Barbie came first while its biographical contender landed on the second spot.

Both movies were in numerous other categories, but overall Oppenheimer seems to faring much better in the overall award and ratings across different platforms. It is even expected to win big at the Academy Awards 2024, although the nominations for it haven’t been revealed yet.

Both movies can be rented on Amazon Prime Video.
