What is Naraka Bladepoint?

For the readers who don’t know anything about Naraka Bladepoint, it throws up to 60 players into a unique and action-packed PVP combat landscape. It is the ultimate battle royale video game that centers mainly around its rapid melee-focused gameplay rather than just shooting like most of the competition.

The origins of Naraka Bladepoint‘s lore date back to an “endless war between 2 ancient gods: Sunwing and Moonbane.” As a result of their epic battle, the Immortal Mask was born, and anyone who wields it acquires “mighty power.” The battle royale is set during the subsequent “war among mortals.”

Naraka Bladepoint‘s wide roster of characters includes Viper Ning (Yushan’s blademaster who also happens to be blind), Tianhai (the great foreign monk), and Temulch (the grassland’s Grey Wolf), among many more. In fact, there are 16 playable characters in total, but the roster will keep getting updates and expansions over time. Each hero has a personalized skillset, and according to Liu, these are some of the “best-looking character designs” they have ever created.

Actually, the game’s PS5 update is apparently so huge that it can potentially take Apex Legends‘ title as the best current battle royale.

What Makes Naraka Bladepoint Stand out?

Aside from its large character roster, Naraka Bladepoint takes place on an interactive, stunning, and “multi-functional battlefield.” The arenas incorporate Eastern architecture and you can grapple or climb around them as required. The immersive world is highly detailed and includes cities, temples, waterfalls, mines, butterflies, and wildflowers.

However, the main aspect that makes Naraka Bladepoint stand out from other battle royales is its innovative “rock-scissor-paper” combat system. Normal attacks are executed by pressing the L2 and R2 buttons. Holding and then releasing these buttons will charge a powerful “Focus attack,” which causes much higher damage and cannot be countered by the opponent’s normal attacks.

Moreover, you can disrupt the Focus attacks by using a new “special gesture called Counter,” which isn’t effective against normal attacks. These are the “three pillars” of the combat “game theory” of Naraka Bladepoint. For example, you can cleverly lure the enemy to use Counter and then hit them with a normal attack for maximum damage.

Additionally, PlayStation fans will receive a “warm welcome gift” from the development team, which will include a Ryuzan-Frost Reflection, a Katana skin, and two Immortal Treasures.

PlayStation Plus members will get even more presents, including an exclusive Headwear item and five more Treasures.
