Much like Cavill’s ‘Mustache Controversy’ there was another actor who had to go down the same road in 2010. After concluding his 1980s hit show Magnum, P.I., Emmy award-winner Tom Selleck landed another lead role in 2010’s Blue Bloods. But, the latter’s producers felt it was best to part ways with his career-defining mustache. However, Selleck pushed back giving way to another mustache-related scandal.

According to CheatSheet, after Tom Selleck was cast as Frank Regan in 2010, the officials probably did not want the character to resemble Selleck’s Thomas Magnum in any way. Aged 65 back then, the producers felt the American actor was a little too old for the facial hair. Despite having appeared on-screen with the mustached look for over 40 years, it seemed like a worthwhile choice to the show-makers.

A tough nut to crack, the 78-year-old did not comply and CBS authorities took on his side, per the source. Fortunately, Selleck was allowed to keep it for Blue Bloods, only to be a distinguished element of his character a decade later.

More so, today the fans recognize Selleck more as a Reagan than a Magnum, and it ought to be a career win. With a 7.7 rating on IMDb, Selleck continues to wow fans with his acting finesse. However, just like all good things come to an end, season 14 of Blue Bloods is scheduled to be the final phase of the decade-old cop show.
