John Travolta is not only a talented and versatile actor, but he is also a very gifted dancer and singer. One of Hollywood’s most versatile stars, he showcased his genius in the 1977 movie Saturday Night Fever. Not only did he achieve international stardom with his unique dancing skills, the actor went on to star in musicals as well.
The actor recently recreated his incredible dance sequence from the movie for a Capital One advertisement, transforming into Santa Claus. While he looked completely unrecognizable, the actor might have never gotten around to recreating the advert for he had previously threatened to quit the movie because the production decided to shoot the sequence in close-up instead of a full-body shot.
When John Travolta Threatened To Quit Saturday Night Fever
John Travolta starred in the 1977 movie Saturday Night Fever, playing the role of a young man who spends his weekends dancing at a local discotheque. The movie explores his character’s life struggles and his desire to succeed in life.
Not only was he praised for his amazing portrayal, but the actor earned widespread acclaim for his incredible dancing skills and how much effort he had put in for all the dancing sequences. Travolta even went on to earn a Best Actor Academy Award nomination.
However, the actor had nearly quit the movie because of a change in the shooting style. Travolta had spent weeks preparing for the shot and practiced for three hours daily to hone his skills. So when he saw that the You Should Be Dancing sequence would be shot in close-up, he threatened to quit for all his efforts would have gone in vain.
Thankfully the production understood how much the shot meant to him and Travolta was allowed to personally supervise the editing so that his brilliant solo performance and the hard work he had put in could be shown to the audiences just as the actor had wanted.
John Travolta Recreated His Solo Dance For An Advert
The now 69-year-old Hollywood legend, recently transformed himself into Santa Claus, with dazzling white locks and an equally majestic white beard for a Capital One advertisement. John Travolta could be seen dancing along and recreating his Saturday Night Fever dance sequence as Tony Manero.
He looks completely unrecognizable as he stutters down the streets in a red and white Santa Claus costume. He then goes on to take the floor as he performs the iconic dance sequence, proving that even after all these years he’s still got the dance in his moves and the music in his steps.
Saturday Night Fever can be streamed on Paramount+.
