During a 2022 interview with CNBC, Dany Garcia opened up about her relationship with the Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson. She recalled their first meeting in college and shared how they had maintained a healthy relationship after their split in 2008.
“We first saw each other in the weight room at the University of Miami,” she said as she explained that she was intrigued by his personality and his curly, afro mohawk. Garcia described their first interaction as a business meeting.
“I walked up to him, extended my hand, and said, ‘Hi, I’m Dany Garcia.’ He was like, “Hi, I’m Dwayne Johnson. It was a like business meeting,” she shared. They had the same interests, such as strength training and bodybuilding, and liked the same music, and Dany Garcia shared that Johnson did not hesitate to ask for her number.
“He asked if I had a phone. I told him I did. He started to call me every day after that,” she said. They got married in 1997 and welcomed their only child, Simone Garcia Johnson, who is now known as Ava Raine in the wrestling world. Although they separated in 2008, the ex-couple is known to be on good terms with each other and has had a healthy relationship even after their split.

Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia met at the University of Miami, where Johnson was on his athletic scholarship to play football, and Garcia was a senior. As Garcia shared, they had similar interests in sports, business, and showbiz and started dating in the early 90s. After dating for a few years, they tied the knot in 1997 and welcomed their first and only child, Simone, in 2001.
However, their marriage ended when they announced that they had decided to separate. “While certain aspects of our relationship have changed, we are both vitally important to each other’s lives,” the statement released by the former couple said, as per People.
They finalized their divorce in 2008. Talking about his separation, the actor has told Oprah Winfrey, “It was just one of those things where it wasn’t an ugly divorce. It was just… marriage wasn’t in our cards.” Although their marriage might not have been in the cards, it certainly had other great things for the ex-couple.
They went on to co-found the production company Seven Bucks Productions, and Garcia represented her ex-husband and actor Henry Cavill under her multi-platform organization, The Garcia Companies and TGC Management. Garcia has produced several movies of the Jumanji star as well.
While Johnson moved on and married Lauren Hashian in 2019 and has two daughters with him, Dany Garcia has also found love again in Dave Rienzi, Johnson’s personal trainer and a very close friend.
