Zack Snyder’s only road back to DCEU was imagined by fan art. The Hollywood director disclosed that his career is taking a turn from the superhero genre, and would only consider returning to DC for a plotline on The Dark Knight Returns. After his success with Zack Snyder’s Justice League in 2021, fans hoped that the director would return with another banger. However, Snyder abruptly shut down all expectations this November.
Consequently, a fan recently shared a staggering poster on social media that reimagined Batman veteran actor Ben Affleck in Snyder’s probable film The Dark Knight Returns. Likewise, netizens were stunned by the idea and hoped for it to come to fruition.

With Zack Snyder’s intention of steering away from the superhero franchise, after leading several DC films, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Batman v Superman, and Man of Steel, there is little hope that the notable director might return to DC. However, talking to The Hollywood Director, Snyder revealed that he wished James Gunn and Peter Safran the best for the DC reboot. But that he would no longer be directing DC movies.
The only possibility that could lure him back to DC was an adaptation of Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns. Snyder claimed he would work on it if only “a true representation of the graphic novel” was done. Therefore, it encouraged the fan art by @rahalarts on Instagram, which featured Ben Affleck as Batman for Zack Snyder’s Dark Knight Returns.

Zack Snyder would not cast Ben Affleck
Snyder has persistently expressed his interest in working on a Dark Knight Returns movie for long. However, when asked if he would be interested in casting Batman v Superman stars Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck for his dream film, Snyder had a rather blunt response. He spoke on the Happy Sad Confused podcast saying,
“No, I don’t think so. I think it would just be its own thing. Yeah, I think it would be its own thing. I would just do it one hundred percent, Watchmen style, really frame-accurate. Really do it. I don’t think it would be that expensive, to be honest. I don’t think so. It’s pretty gritty.”
While all facts vote against the cause, the fans’ demands in the superhero verse are sometimes underestimated. Dark Knight Returns is a great possibility, that could change the direction of the DCEU, unlike its failed attempts this year. Besides, Snyder also seems busy developing a universe of his own with Rebel Moon.
