Everyone has their own preferences when asked about the best movie of all time. No single answer can be wrong, and some of the answers may even inspire others to explore new films. However, when acclaimed actors and filmmakers like Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg, and Liam Neeson recommend their favorite movies of all time, it’s particularly worth taking note.
Over the years, the age-old question has been answered by several celebrities, and one movie-loving Instagram account thought it would be fun to put together a video compilation. While the compilation is not all-inclusive, it features some great films from some of the big names in the industry.

Harrison Ford, a cinema legend, chose a classic as his favorite: To Kill a Mockingbird, Robert Mulligan’s film adaptation of Harper Lee’s novel. Another legendary filmmaker, Steven Spielberg, also went for a classic, naming Lawrence of Arabia as his top pick. He even admitted to watching this film more times than any other film. The film was also recommended by Laurence Fishburne. Liam Neeson’s choice was the 1959 Academy Award-winning film, Ben-Hur.
While Michael Caine’s favorite was Casablanca, Elisabeth Moss picked When Harry Met Sally. Cobie Smulders’s favorite pick was The Princess Bride, Pat Shortt’s was Jaws, Taron Egerton’s was Shaun of the Dead, Taika Waititi’s was Badlands, and Domhnall Gleeson’s was Home Alone. While it’s a short list, the movies recommended were indeed some of the best movies of all time.
Fans Also Shared Their Suggestions
Not just celebrities, but fans too joined the conversation with their favorite or what they believe to be the best movie of all time. Some popular choices mentioned in the comments include (based on the number of likes): The Grand Budapest Hotel, Gladiator, The Shawshank Redemption, Good Will Hunting, The Truman Show, 12 Angry Men, and The Lord of the Rings movies.
However, the comment that stole the show came from @bijutheroguetitan, who cleverly referred to Fight Club with the words, “Rule no 1 and 2 doesn’t let me talk about it”. This comment received more than 11k likes on Instagram. Another popular comment stated, “La La Land will be the Singing in the Rain of the 21st century”.
While there may never be a definite answer to the question of the best movie, this compilation provides a fantastic watchlist for film enthusiasts. It’s safe to say that legends like Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg themselves will make their way onto many people’s favorite lists with their films.
