Loki has always been one of the most favorite subjects of interest among fans, to say the least. Tom Hiddleston as The God of Mischief won hearts the instant he stepped foot on camera. And when Marvel revealed that the star was getting his very own show, fans were elated. Thus, after the humongous success of the first season, the second season has finally rolled out and fans are in disbelief, as the show’s viewership rankings dropped by 39%.
Why Isn’t Tom Hiddleston’s Loki 2 as Big as the First Season?
Recent streaming data from Nielsen indicates a noticeable decline in viewership for Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki season 2 premiere compared to its series premiere in 2021. The latest numbers show that the second season which premiered on October 5th of this year garnered 446 million minutes of viewing time in its initial three days on the streaming platform, Disney+.
In contrast, the first season premiere recorded approximately 731 million minutes of viewing time during its initial days. This marks a significant 39% drop in viewership from Season 1 to Season 2. Why so?
To investigate the matter, several factors are being considered as potential reasons for this decline. Firstly, there’s the apparent slump in the MCU, evident from the recent performances of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and the Secret Invasion series.
Secondly, the first season’s performance was record-breaking in its own right, as it was released amidst the pandemic, an era that changed the streaming sector forever. The mega success is somewhat attributed to this factor.
Despite the numbers, the overall fan consensus about the season has been pretty positive. Consequently, some fans are a bit confused about this drop in viewership.
Loki Fans Are in Disbelief!
Since the drop in viewership has been made public, fans are in utter shock. The saga that continues to explore the mad, multiversal story of Loki delves further into the chaos, especially after where the first season left fans wondering.
Thus, this is how some fans reacted to the news,
That’s wild because it’s the best thing the MCU has put on TV…

Not being able to do any press didn’t help. Five episodes in and this is the best MCU/Disney+ project to date. 🤷🏻♂️

And it's 100% better than season 1

This tracks smh. S2 is GOOD (to me), but they waited until after they exhausted their fanbases to a degree before circling back around to the good shows

As the last fan pointed out, the recent slump in the MCU and the additional wait that fans had to endure after Season 1 might be the reasons for the recent drop in numbers. However, fans are thoroughly enjoying the saga so far.
Loki 2 is currently streaming on Disney+.
