Starfield is one the most anticipated games of the year, and it’s not far from its official release date of 6th September 2023. Created by famed developer Bethesda and directed by Todd Howard, fans across the world are eagerly awaiting for Starfield to drop.

However, there is a caveat: only those with current-gen Xbox consoles and a PC can play the game. Or so we thought, at least. While PlayStation users are still not included owing to the game’s exclusivity to Xbox and PC, players can play the behemoth that is Starfield on a ten-year-old console. Namely, the Xbox One.

How can players play Starfield on Xbox One?

Of course, Starfield doesn’t get a traditional, native release on the Xbox One since it’s a last gen console and presumably not powerful enough. Instead, there is a simple workaround which is to stream the game on an Xbox One. That way, players won’t have to download it either, which is good since the Starfield install size is 126 GB on Xbox consoles!

To enjoy the game at its fullest, players will need an internet connection that is strong and runs at a high speed. It also needs to be stable, so ideally there should be fluctuations at all. Players should also be careful of the fact that streaming Starfield through the cloud has the potential to consume the data allowed by their internet plan. Unless they have unlimited data, that is.

What do PS5 players have to say about Starfield’s Xbox exclusivity?

Naturally, PlayStation players are less than pleased about the fact that they don’t get to play Starfield. Bethesda’s sprawling space RPG would have doubtless found a home on many of Sony’s consoles, given the popularity the developer enjoys. This includes games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout 4, and even Fallout 76, despite the latter not being as popular as the other two.

But we live in the age of acquisitions, and Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision – Blizzard meant that there was never any doubt that Starfield would skip the PlayStation 5. PlayStation players have the right to feel aggrieved, but there’s not much they can do about it. There’s almost no chance that Microsoft changes its mind about Starfield’s Xbox and PC exclusivity, given that it’s an additional incentive for gamers to buy an Xbox, whether it be an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S.
