Young Sheldon had a good run. The CBS sitcom and The Big Bang Theory prequel starring Iain Armitage, Annie Potts, and co. is now wrapping with its seventh and final season. Undoubtedly, it is much heavier on the cast to say goodbye to the show that was started about seven years ago, focusing on the younger version of Sheldon Cooper.

For Potts, it is far too hard to wrap up the show as the actor revealed that she was devastated by the news of the show ending with the seventh season. Potts first appeared in the third episode of the first season of the show playing Sheldon and his siblings’ MeeMaw, Connie Tucker, and she has been a regular till the end.

Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro created Young Sheldon starring Iain Armitage as the younger version of Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory (an eccentric nerd scientist played by Jim Parsons). The show upheld the legacy of its predecessor. The creators have decided to end Young Sheldon while the show is at its peak, but it has upset MeeMaw star Annie Potts. In a chat with Variety, the actor revealed that she was shocked when the season finale was announced. “It’s been really, really, really emotional,” she told the outlet.

“I mean, it’s been half of Ian’s life, and it’s been a 10th of mine, but at 70, that feels significant. And, you know, it’s a little village that we have, and we’ve all taken care of each other and raised each other up. There will be a grievous hole in my life. There’s no question about it. It’ll get easier. Grief does, loss does.”

For Potts, the show had room for a few more seasons but despite the good run, the hit sitcom of a young genius is coming to an end. The 71-year-old is now in grief as she is not yet ready to say goodbye to the show.

Fans Disagree With Annie Potts For A Good Reason

With endless seasons, a show might lose its very essence and taste over time, running out of creative ideas to captivate fans. Several shows, including Vikings, Orange Is The New Black, and The Walking Dead, have gone downhill after having solid starts. Also, Young Sheldon’s predecessor, The Big Bang Theory, ended with its 12th season after 279 episodes while the acclaimed show was still doing good. Fans have taken to X to respond to Potts’ reaction to the series finale.

For Potts, bidding farewell to Young Sheldon is much harder than any of the shows she previously worked on (including Designing Women). “This one was especially hard because I was completely unprepared,” she told Variety.

“I was shocked. I mean, the No. 1 show on network TV, No. 1 on Netflix. We’re, I think, all that people watch on TikTok besides a couple of recipes for pasta. It just seemed like such a stupid business move. Forgive me, but I don’t know. If a show is starting to drag or lag or have a lack of stories or whatever, then you kind of see it coming. We were totally ambushed by this. I was, anyway,” she added.

Regardless, the show is now in its final season run with the return of Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper and Mayim Bialik as Amy Farrah Fowler one more time for fans to witness the eccentric couple. Young Sheldon will end with a one-hour series finale, scheduled to air on May 16, 2024.
