After the seventh and final season of Young Sheldon was confirmed last year, fans of the show appeared sad to bid adieu to their favorite series. However, to cheer them up, CBS recently announced that it’s not quite the end of the extended Young Sheldon universe. According to reports, it was confirmed that audiences will get a sequel series all about Georgie and Mandy.
Following a similar format to Young Sheldon, the upcoming spin-off series will focus on Montana Jordan and Emily Osment’s characters. Made up of half-hour episodes, the sequel series is set to air in the 2024-2025 season. However, despite the promising update from CBS, fans seem upset with the unnecessary stretching of the storyline.
CBS announced a Sequel Series of Young Sheldon
Both television shows, The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon have been fan-favorite watches since their inception. Satisfying fans with a crazy amalgamation of humor and knowledge, the two shows managed to make a strong impact on their audiences. However, after the latter was confirmed to have its seventh season as the showdown in 2023, it created a bit of a sad time for fans.
In an attempt to take away the grief from fans, CBS recently announced yet another spinoff following Young Sheldon’s departure. Announcing an upcoming sequel series which is yet to be named, in the midst of airing its seventh and final season, Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment revealed their decision to proceed with a storyline that would focus on Montana Jordan and Emily Osment’s characters and follow a similar format to its prequel.
“It has been a privilege to spend the last seven years with Sheldon and the Cooper family and now this wonderful journey will continue with Georgie and Mandy. Chuck and both Steves have done a masterful job developing these characters and entertaining generations of fans with relatable, heartwarming stories brought to life by Montana and Emily. We eagerly look forward to the next chapter in this beloved universe.” Reisenbach told via EW.
With CBS officially ordering a sequel series for the 2024-2025 TV season, fans understandably questioned that – isn’t The Big Bang Theory technically a sequel to Young Sheldon? But according to clarification, since the upcoming show will revolve around Sheldon’s brother Georgie Cooper (Montana Jordan) and his wife, Mandy (Emily Osment), it is going to be a different sort of sequel.
Fans Are Upset With Hollywood’s Creative Bankruptcy
Learning about CBS’ decision to come up with a sequel series for Young Sheldon that is set to shift the spotlight from the protagonist to his brother, fans seem underwhelmed with the report. Failing to understand the point behind coming up with a sequel that is going to serve the extended universe of Sheldon, without focusing on the character, fans begin criticizing the decision.
Calling out Hollywood’s creative bankruptcy which is forcing creators to milk fan-favorite shows and movies, in an attempt to extract guaranteed success, fans believe the upcoming sequel is proof that the golden age of television is long gone. Addressing how previously Hollywood came up with great series and movies for audiences’ entertainment, netizens claim that the era is now gone.

Confused with the need for a Young Sheldon sequel series that doesn’t even focus on the protagonist, fans imply that CBS’ decision proves the death of creativity. Instead of coming up with new shows that require brainstorming ideas, creativity, and innovation, netizens claim that the creators are simply implementing shortcuts to success. Rather upset with the announcement, fans seem to wage war on social media.
