She made her debut in the MCU as Cassie Lang in 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The film also saw Bill Murray make his entry into the franchise which was surprising for audiences. It seems Murray specifically took Newton’s permission to join the film, with a motive behind it.

Kathryn Newton took over the role of Cassie Lang from Emma Fuhrmann (who played her in Avengers: Endgame) in Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania. It was her first big role in a franchise and was ecstatic to be playing a popular Marvel character. Surprisingly, Bill Murray also appeared in the film as Lord Kylar, who has a history with Janet Van Dyne (played by Michelle Pfeiffer).

Newton promoted the film on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon where she talked about her experience of making the film and bonding with the cast. She revealed that Murray specifically took her permission to be in the film. Newton had already met Murray before the film at a golf tour tournament.

Newton claimed that Murray already had the offer to be in the film before he took her permission. She concluded that he only asked her because he wanted to play golf together after the film was done with her and probably Michael Douglas, who is an avid golfer. He said,

“He’s like, ‘Kathryn, I’ve been thinking. I think I want to join the Marvel [Cinematic] Universe. And I was just going to ask you if it was okay if I joined Ant-Man’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, Bill. That’s cool. That’s cool with me.

Maybe there’s someone else to talk to.’ I think he had an offer, and he was just calling to be like, ‘Are we gonna play golf together?’ Michael Douglas golfs as well. We didn’t get to golf, though, because London was rainy and, it turns out, Marvel movies are very intense.”

Murray seems to have been impressed by Newton’s skills in the game and wants to become golfing buddies with her in addition to being co-stars in the film. It is hilarious as to how he went about the situation by asking her permission to join the film.

Kathryn Newton Felt Portraying Lisa Frankenstein Was A Daunting Task

Kathryn Newton is gearing up for the release of her new horror comedy film Lisa Frankenstein. The film, inspired by Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein, revolves around the titular character, a high school teenager who revives a corpse from the Victorian era with the hope of making him her romantic interest. The film is written by Diablo Cody who wrote 2009’s Jennifer’s Body.

Newton told The Hollywood Reporter that Cody’s writing was striking and poetic, making it instantly interesting. She was taken aback at first by the challenge she was faced with but ultimately committed to play the daunting character. She said,

“With Diablo’s writing, you get pulled in quicker. There’s an element of rhythm that’s different than anything I’ve ever read. It’s poetry, and I was stumped by the idea that my character talks nonstop. It was daunting, and I really had to take a step back after reading it and assess if I could do this and bring it to life in a way that the script was asking. So when I read it, I thought, “Well, this is a no-brainer, but maybe I should really take a second and think about it.”

In addition to Newton, the film stars Cole Sprouse, Liza Soberano, Henry Eikenberry, Joe Chrest, and Carla Gugino. Lisa Frankenstein will be released in theaters on February 9, 2024.
