When it comes to the supernatural and horror genre, Bill Skarsgård’s choices seem to indicate that he has an affinity to play grim roles. While the Swedish star will be seen in The Crow reboot this summer in which he reprises the iconic role of Brandon Lee, Skarsgård terrified audiences in the 2017 film IT where he played a creepy clown named Pennywise.
The talented star’s portrayal of this horrifying Stephen King character earned him a lot of praise for his wholehearted commitment to the role. But even Skarsgård who admitted that he enjoyed this challenge, was unable to stomach one blood-curdling scene which was eventually cut from the film.
This Deleted Scene In IT Was too Much To Take For Bill Skarsgård
Andy Muschietti’s adaptation of the Stephen King novel IT was released in 2017 and quickly became the stuff of nightmares for audiences worldwide. The story revolves around a group of bullied children who work together to defeat a terrifying, shape-changing monster who mostly manifests as a creepy clown played by Bill Skarsgård.
While the film incorporated many parts of King’s active imagination into the horror scenes, one particular segment was too gory even for the leading actor to stomach, and ultimately ended up being cut completely.
Speaking to the Playback podcast (via Far Out Magazine), The Crow star revealed that a particular segment which was to explore Pennywise’s origin, dealt with the abominable clown grabbing a baby from her mother and eating her. This scene made everyone’s stomach churn to such an extent that it was ultimately deleted from the film. Recalling the experience, the Swedish actor said,
“That turned out really, really disturbing”.
When the producers were shown this clip, it expectedly drew an adverse reaction from everyone considering that the gruesome scene involved horror inflicted on a child. The video clip though, did manage to get leaked online and traumatized many netizens before being permanently deleted.
Bill Skarsgård’s The Crow Reboot Has One Significant Change
Three decades after its release, Brandon Lee’s The Crow will finally get a reboot starring Bill Skarsgård as the central protagonist in a script written by Oscar nominee Zach Baylin and directed by Rupert Sanders. The film’s release on June 7th which was announced quite suddenly, is creating some talking points already.
Insider Jeff Sneider who is a self-confessed fan of the Brandon Lee original, revealed information about a potential change in the reboot. Talking in the Hot Mic Podcast, the journalist hinted that the character arc of the villain played by Danny Huston will see a significant modification. The blogger felt that this could be a defining factor in the film’s success or failure.
“There is a supernatural element. I’m told that the villain has supernatural abilities. That has me nervous. I think Bill Skarsgård could make a good Crow, so Im trying to remain optimistic about it.”
With the film having taken Ballerina’s summer slot, Sneider also questioned the timing of the release. He felt that the film may have bitten off more than it can chew by opting for such a quick premier since the release date was announced just a few weeks ago. With another 3 months to go and not much publicity being done as yet except for the trailer release, it remains to be seen if the film will gain hype quickly.
IT can be streamed on Netflix.
