James DeMonaco is known for his unusual writing, and he took it to a whole other level with his Purge franchise. Although, the idea behind showing a twisted American society could be that people need to know what would happen if they undergo such a horrifying state of affairs.

While showing the concept of making all crimes legal for 12 hours can be extremely “dark,” the films have been received well by fans and critics alike. The heights of crimes people can go to in order to achieve their goals have been masterfully shown in the series. Captain America: Civil War actor Frank Grillo has shown intense acting capabilities for this film and, there is no other actor we could possibly imagine in his place!

DeMonaco is coming back with the sixth installment in the $516 million franchise and things are about to descend into madness with the social turmoils that our world is facing today. “America has been divided,” and we could not even imagine how ominous the story would get, he said.

A Divided America And The Nasty Side Of It

The world is already facing a crisis of overtly powerful rich businessmen and politicians oppressing the masses and dividing them on the bases of color, gender, money, ideologies, and sexuality.

According to the director, The Purge 6 will explore the depths of darkness and the audience would get to see the issues that we all are struggling with and forced to accept. And of course, the evils of social media are getting out of hand.

Talking to Collider, DeMonaco shared –

Purge 6 is my way of looking at the country now. I feel the country and the political landscape show us a broken America. We’re remapping. The film is about the remapping of America based on ideology, sexuality, and religion. You have your Black state, you have your gay state, and you have your white evangelical state. And it’s really a broken country.”

Is Frank Grillo Back As The Leading Man?

After Ethan Hawke appeared as the lead in The Purge back in 2013, the film took off well enough for DeMonaco to bring Frank Grillo as the main man introducing his character “Leo Barnes,” which fans love to this day. After The Purge: Election Year, Grillo was not seen as DeMonaco had taken the backseat for the subsequent Purge films. But, according to the Wheelman actor, DeMonaco is really interested in this one.

“He’s got the script, man. The script has been written and submitted to Universal. With Michael Bay and Blum, there are a lot of cooks in the kitchen. This is about Leo Barnes-centric and could be the swan song for the franchise. I know they have said it before, but before I start walking with a can, it would be a better idea to do it soon.”

Although there is no official release date on the film yet, it is reported that the events will be set a decade after the events shown in The Forever Purge.

Originally, the franchise was supposed to end with The Forever Purge back in 2021, but DeMonaco clearly has a lot more left in him to say.
