Blackbeard has been one of the most mysterious characters in One Piece. He was introduced as a member of the Whitebeard Pirates who went rogue after killing his commander. Portgas D. Ace was hunting him. Initially, fans thought it to be an open-and-shut case. But as the story progressed, Eiichiro Oda started to open the knots, and the fans were left baffled.
There are several fan theories surrounding the captain of the Blackbeard Pirates. Marshall D. Teach is the only character in One Piece to possess two Devil Fruit abilities. Most fans believe he has three Devil Fruits, the last of which is a mythical Zoan with the powers of a Cerberus. The latest fan theory adds to it by bringing forth new claims about Blackbeard’s split personality.
Blackbeard Has Split Personality Disorder
In most cases, the Jolly Roger of a pirate defines the captain of the ship. In Monkey D. Luffy’s case, it is the Straw Hat, and in Shanks’ case, it is the eye scar. Blackbeard’s Jolly Roger has three skulls on it. Most fans believe it to be related to the three-headed dog Cerberus, but the latest fan theory claims it to signify his three different personalities. The first is courageous and represents his Will of D. The second personality showcases his evil nature, while the third brings forth his fear and weakness.
Marshall D. Teach was revealed to have never slept in his life, which could mean one of his personalities was always awake while the others were taking a nap or lying dormant. His meeting with Luffy proved that he was courageous and had a dream. He told them that a man’s dream never dies. He is ambitious and does not back from a fight, like challenging Garp and Sengoku during the Paramount War.
Apart from that, he also had a massive appetite, liked to be free, always competing, etc. His second personality is the reason why he is so feared. It showcases Teach’s evil nature. He is willing to go to any lengths to gain what he desires. He joined the Whitebeard Pirates in search of the Yami Yami no Mi. When Thatch found the Devil Fruit, he killed him and consumed it.
Blackbeard defeated Portgas D. Ace used him as a stepping stone to become a Shichibukai only to free the most ferocious prisoners in Impel Down, and recruit them. He is the primary reason behind Ace’s death. His third personality highlights his fear of death and weakness. Due to the properties of Yami Yami no Mi, he often gets hurt by his opponent’s attacks and is fearful of them.
When Whitebeard was about to kill him during the Paramount War, he showed his scared side. He was afraid and asked Whitebeard to not kill him. Even after being a member of the D clan, he fears death. These three personalities sum up Marshall D. Teach’s entire nature. It adds to the split personality disorder of the antagonist in One Piece.
Blackbeard Is Getting Closer To His Dream
Due to his having three different personalities, he is always prepared for any impending danger. He has a sharp brain and always thinks one step ahead. Blackbeard has a mysterious ability to steal Devil Fruits. Using that ability, he stole Devil Fruits best suited for his crew. Instead of working hard, he prefers to be smart.
Blackbeard has always worked systematically and took one step at a time. During the Egghead Island arc, he divided his crew into different parts and asked them to carry out a few missions. He ambushed Trafalgar D. Water Law and stole his Road Poneglyphs. Teach’s multiple personalities are always working to fulfill his dream of conquering the world. The Cerberus theory just got stronger with the split personality disorder.
But it is still a fan theory, and until Eiichiro Oda confirms, there is no way of taking it as absolute data. Everything points toward Blackbeard being a Cerberus in One Piece, but nothing can be confirmed without the creator’s consent. Hopefully, he will reveal it soon since One Piece has entered its final saga.
