regarding the studio’s future. On April 3, 2023, the trailer for the movie Blue Beetle was released, offering audiences a glimpse of Susan Sarandon as Victoria Kord. The trailer also introduced Raoul Max’s Trujillo’scharacter, Carapax the Indestructible Man, who serves as a secondary villain. So, Who Is Victoria Kord Exactly?

Comic book enthusiasts quickly noticed that Kord shares a surname with Ted Kord, the second incarnation of Blue Beetle, leading to speculation about their potential connection. Subsequently, it was officially announced that Victoria Kord is Ted’s elder sister and holds the position of CEO in the family business, Kord Industries, which Ted inherited from their father. Furthermore, it has been revealed that Bruna Marquezine will portray Jenny Kord, another member of the Kord family, in the Blue Beetle movie. Although Jenny’s precise relationship with Ted remains undisclosed, she could be his niece, daughter, or younger sister (waiting eagerly for the film to release!).

Kord, the leader of Lord Industries, is determined to acquire the valuable alien technology before it eludes her grasp and ends up in Reyes’ possession. The previous iterations of Blue Beetle include Dan Garrett, the Golden Age Blue Beetle, and the well-known scientist and inventor Ted Kord, who will have an intriguing connection in the new movie.

In a September interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Sarandon provided insights into her character, revealing that she portrays the antagonist in the film. She humorously described her role as the white military-industrial complex." While the movie primarily revolves around Reyes and his Mexican-American family, Sarandon’s character plays a significant part as Reyes embarks on a journey to discover and utilize his newly acquired superpowers after completing his college education.

Under the guidance of James Gunn and Peter Safran, Blue Beetle, directed by Angel Manuel Soto holds a significant position within the revitalized DC Universe (DCU). Gunn has affirmed that the titular superhero is the initial fresh character introduced in this reconstructed universe and has no ties to previous films. Following the release of the film’s first trailer in April, early responses have been predominantly favorable, indicating a positive reception to Blue Beetle.

The official premiere date for the film is set for August 18th, 2023.
