Chasmal Fear looks like one of the most exciting indie horrors of recent times and judging by the latest trailer, horror fans are in for a treat. The game which is described as a next-gen tactical shooter survival horror game is built with Unreal Engine 5 and the POV comes from a body-cam where players explore an underwater facility where something has gone terribly wrong.

The game started life in July 2023 and is being developed by brothers Bobby and Zhanko Mojsovski, who formed the small indie studio, MystiveDev. The brothers announced the game in October 2023 and it was their enjoyment of immersive body-cam games which served as inspiration. Coupled with their love of action and survival horror games, the Mojsovskis have been working on their take on this medium.

What do we know about the Chasmal Fear game?

Chasmal Fear
Players have to manage limited resources throughout the game so must be strategic in their decision-making.

Chasmal Fear takes place in an underwater facility in which players must investigate to see what has gone wrong. However, players should take note that there are limited resources available, so strategic decisions have to be made about whether to engage enemies or use stealth to bypass any combat situations as there are sure to be worse things lying further down the corridors.

Although we know that the game is set in the near future, we know little about the storyline beyond the abandoned facility. However, players do have an AR Interface equipped which will help when moving through the darkened corridors, and with the co-op option available, players could opt to have a friend join them on this nightmare journey.

It should be noted that any horrors that are destroyed have the possibility to mutate into something worse, so players should be keeping that in mind for encounters. In addition to keeping your wits about you, players have to unlock secret areas and solve puzzles to gather information on what happened at the facility. With a butterfly effect, every decision you make in the game impacts the individual gameplay experience.

The devs describe the game as having ‘ultra-realistic environments’ and that is evident in the latest trailer where we can see the level of detail in the underwater facility. Traversing the steel hallways, players will have to be vigilant about what jumps out at them with only limited ammo with which to battle the unknown evils.

Whilst we don’t have a confirmed date for release as yet, the latest reactions from fans have been overwhelmingly positive with the majority of fans stating that they can’t wait to get their hands on the title.

This look really awesome, and it’s co op as well, I can’t wait!!! –@Jaydiamm

The devs did advise fans that although the game is still in the development stage, they hoped to have a playable demo available soon. No doubt fans will want to keep an eye on the official channels for MystiveDev so that they can be the first to experience it first-hand.

The horrors in Chasmal Fear may mutate after you destroy them, so players should be cautious.

Those fans who are looking forward to getting their hands on this title can head over to Steam and Wishlist it, ahead of release. MsytiveDev’s other title, Mirror Forge, which was released in 2022 is currently available on Steam this psychological survival horror has 33% off so it’s an ideal time to pick this up if you are looking to see what the studio has to offer.

Indie games do not always get the recognition that they deserve but given the hype surrounding this game, this looks to be a title that many horror fans will be looking to pick up. With options for both solo and co-op available for this underwater survival game, the question for fans is whether they should take this on alone or have someone along for the ride.
