Barbara Broccoli, the producer of the James Bond series, has opened up about her thoughts on the future of the popular franchise after Daniel Craig’s departure as the lead character. She emphasized the importance of the journey ahead, which will reshape the character of Bond. She is also disappointed in the franchise executives, as they have yet to modernize the franchise.
Broccoli asserted the importance of the upcoming films in capturing the evolution of the world ever since Daniel Craig took on the role of the spy back in 2006 with Casino Royale.
Barbara Broccoli On The Future Of James Bond
Barbara Broccoli shed light on the topic of reinventing and modernization of the 007 character. She said the process has been going on for decades, asserting that it is not a novel concept to modernize a character.
Broccoli told The Guardian:
“The next instalment would be very important to depict that how the world has changed since Daniel took the role in 2006. This won’t be anything new as the 007 character has always been reinvented and modernized with the course of changing world over the decades.”
She clarified that when the Cold War came to a halt, some thought that the era of villains might have passed and the world was in a state of peace, saying, “Bond is dead,” which, according to her, turned out to be completely wrong.
Broccoli said that when Daniel Craig took on the role of 007, their aim was to showcase a 21st-century hero. She asserted that Craig’s standout portrayal gave them the opportunity to explore the emotional depth of the character.
Throughout the movie series, Daniel Craig has featured in a total of five films, starting with Casino Royale in 2006 and ending his tenure with No Time To Die in 2021.

Producers Can Surprise Fans With James Bond Casting
During an interview with The Telegraph, Charlie Higson, known for his contributions to the Young Bond novels, emphasized that it would be really difficult for fans to predict who the next James Bond would be.
Regarding the extensive number of actors potentially being considered for the role of 007, Higson hinted that they have already been turned down by the executives who are overseeing the franchise developments.
“As soon as the papers say so-and-so is being considered as the next James Bond, you know that they’re not going to be the next James Bond.”
The writer also said that Eon Production is known for surprising fans with their castings, as they did with Daniel Craig. While Craig’s casting was met with criticism at first, he went on to become one of the best portrayals of the spy.
