Cavill has been open about his intention to play the role if given the opportunity. It seems that luck is not on the Superman actor’s side because, after the cancellation of Warner Bros’ Black Adam sequel, in which he is expected to appear, new criteria for the 007 role rule him out.

New James Bond Favorite Contender Beats Henry Cavill On The Top Spot

Long-time James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has revealed that they will introduce the next incarnation of the spy. The requirements are clear and simple: a male British actor under the age of 40 and stands about 5’10” in height. They also expect the actor to be able to commit to a ten-year contract, hence the age is of utmost significance.

Henry Cavill will celebrate his 40th birthday this year, and he is 6’1” tall. As the production for the film won’t start this year or anytime soon, he will age out of the race. Tom Hardy, another strong contender and a fan-favorite actor, will turn 46 this year. Both of them have low chances of stealing the role.

We’ve seen plenty of names head the Bond betting over the years, but none have been as surprising as the current favourite, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who continues to attract interest from 007 punters.”

Known for his roles in the Kick-Ass movies and Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron, Taylor-Johnson will provide a fresh take on the James Bond role as the studio aims to bring a younger version of the British spy and a reboot of the franchise that would see Bond in his novice years.

Aside from James Bond, Taylor-Johnson is also set to play a lead role in the upcoming Sony Spider-verse epic film Kraven the Hunter. Meanwhile, Cavill has announced that he is working with Amazon Studios to work on the Warhammer franchise.

Daniel Craig was the last to play the James Bond role, and while all the previous actors who wore the British spy suit are aged above 40, there are still other popular contenders for the 007 slot. Fans also support the likes of Idris Elba and younger actors who fit the age requirement, such as Regé-Jean Page and James Norton. It seems that Henry Cavill has been ruled out of the race by qualifications alone, and his upcoming big projects will also not let him commit to the 10-year contract.
