Borderlands 4 Is Looking More and More Likely

Borderlands is a franchise that normalized first-person shooters with gritty humor and cel-shaded textures that grew on most of us. After Borderlands 3’s massive success and fans receiving a spin-off of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, the highly anticipated Borderlands 4 might just be in the works.

According to a Redditor, a LinkedIn profile has revealed some details regarding the game’s existence. It seems that the person mentioned has worked on the title as an Environment Artist. The profile also shows a strong work history with multiple studios, like Asobo Studio and CD Projekt Red.

What Is the Profile’s Connection to Borderlands 4?

This is the second sight of the title, without taking into account that time it was confused with another Borderlands title by a VA.

Nicolas Rudowski’s profile on LinkedIn confirms that he has worked on Borderlands 4 as an environment artist for 1 year and 6 months. That’s clearly some quality time to develop and refine the game’s art, considering Gearbox’s relatively large (1000+) studio size.

In the past, Gearbox has taken somewhere between three and five years to develop Borderlands 3, including the DLC content. It has been four years since the game’s launch, and given the recent launch of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, we can give it a year or so more before Borderlands 4 is officially out. That’s just speculation. As for the official news, we haven’t heard anything about the fourth installment of Borderlands from Gearbox.

Borderlands 4 – All That We’d Like to See

Handsome Jack from Borderlands games
We need more iconic characters like Handsome Jack in Borderlands 4.

Borderlands 3 was undoubtedly a great game, especially when experienced with co-op mates. However, the charm and wit of the previous games were a miss, and the narrative direction lacked a bit. This was a common complaint from long-term fans of the series, demanding the authenticity of Borderlands to make a return.

Regardless, the plethora of guns, character abilities, and exploration that made the franchise special remained true, and that’s where the game excelled. To this day, Steam reviews of the game have garnered a ‘Very Positive’ rating, and we’re likely to see that consistency with Borderlands 4. But there are a few things fans would absolutely like to see.

For one, we want exploration and navigation to be better. Yes, the worlds so far have been mesmerizing to explore, but navigating them through a barebones map system and limited vehicles has been painful. A game’s UI and HUD are a huge part of its quality of life, and Borderlands 4 deserves to have the best in the business.

Secondly, guns can be way more customizable. The weapons and loot systems in Borderlands 3 were great. Especially with how absurd they can be sometimes (guns that fire guns, guns that fire money, and so on), but they never felt unique to the player’s gameplay style. Especially in an RPG-esque game like Borderlands. Like character abilities, maybe the guns can have a skill tree too? Or perhaps we can assemble different gun parts together? Come on, Gearbox, give us your best shot.

Finally, it should have better lore. The planets, characters, and corporations in Borderlands are dynamic, edgy, and never out of style. Still, the world-building and environmental storytelling can be improved. It’s all the dialogue and lines of written text we find ‘between the lines’ that count. More side quests and character stories, maybe?
