The world of video games is just as vast as the earth’s oceans, and getting into them is always a joyous ride. And so far, there have been few games that have been able to make an impact on the entire world as much as the GTA series from Rockstar Games has managed to. For more than 25 years, the franchise has put out some of the industry’s most commercially successful and critically acclaimed games.
And while the franchise has been the center of a lot of praise and admiration, it has also seen its fair share of problems and attempts to slander. The most famous one among them was when the developer of the GTA franchise Rockstar Games was sued by actress Lindsay Lohan for the reason that the latest installment in the franchise had illegally used her as a reference for an in-game character.
Lindsay Lohan Sued GTA Developer Rockstar Games For Using Her As A Model For A Character
With such a rich history and a legacy to create a vast and interactive open-world gameplay to uphold, the GTA, or Grand Theft Auto games have to ensure that it has enough engaging content for the player to immerse themselves into the world created by the developers. This not only includes places to explore but also characters to play as and interact with, which boasts of a diverse selection of characters. But in doing so, it seems that Rockstar Games took inspiration from real life, which eventually led to that inspiration taking notice and legal action against them.

In 2014, Lindsay Lohan filed a lawsuit against Rockstar Games, claiming that they had wrongfully used her looks to create the famous in-game character Lacey Jones while also giving her the same clothes and a similar voice. Not only this, she also claimed that they had taken her iconic peace sign pose and used it as promotional material in their campaigns in the famous artwork of Jones that can also be seen on the loading screen of the game. While the lawsuit seemed valid enough to her, the court ruled in favor of the video game developer. Judge Eugene Fahey said:
“[The] artistic renderings are indistinct, satirical representations of the style, look and persona of a modern, beach-going young woman… that is not recognisable as plaintiff.”
In simple terms, the court ruled out her case because the artwork and character design could’ve been any blonde female who could’ve modeled for her and not specifically her.

What’s Next For The GTA Series?
With five major installments and three alternate titles under the franchise’s name, Rockstar Games is now trying to come out with its most ambitious project yet. Ever since the release of GTA V ten years ago, there have been reports of GTA VI in the works, and if the rumors are true, then the wait will be worth it.
As per rumors and claims, the upcoming installment of the series is estimated to have cost the developer a mind-bending $2 Billion in production, which hints at the game being one of the most exceptional and immersive next-generation titles in the gaming industry with some never-before-seen surprises up its sleeves.
