Borderlands 4 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2 might be in development as per a leak. The Borderlands franchise is one of the most iconic action role-playing first-person shooter video game series. The games are usually set in a fictional world in outer space. Which is inspired by the traditional Western setting. The series is developed by Gearbox Software, 2K Australia, and a couple of games are also developed by Telltale Games.
The main series consists of four games: Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Borderlands 3. There are also spin-off games in the franchise, including Tiny Tina’s Wonderland as well as comic books and novels. A movie is also in the works since April 2021. Recently a Reddit post had a post that mentioned a LinkedIn profile.
The profile is of Randel Reiss. who is a Senior Technical and Production Director the professional’s experience mentions Borderlands 4 and Tiny Tina‘s Wonderland 2. This leak suggests that the studio might be working on the sequels for both of these titles.
Senior Technical Director’s Experience on His LinkedIn Profile Hints at Borderlands 4 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderland 2’s Development
The news, as stated earlier was shared on Reddit by a user with the username u/KekanKok. Having uploaded the post just 18 hours ago, the leak is still fresh.
The post mentions that Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2 and Borderlands 4 might be in the works. The profile which has already been hyperlinked above contains the experience mentioning the two games at the time of writing. Having mentioned this, there is no confirmation from the studio or the publisher yet. Thus, it might be a good idea to take the leak with a generous grain of salt.
The leak has the professional listing his experience as Studio Technical Director at Lost Boys Interactive (Gearbox Software) on a contractual basis. The actual statement mentioned by Randel R. mentioned this:
Plan and engineer development on Borderlands 4 UE4, Tiny Tina’s Wonderland UE4, Brothers in Arms UE4, WWE2K23,
The description further read:
Amazon’s New World, Elder Scroll Online, Tiny Tina’s Wonderland 2 UE4, Zombie Sim UE4, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox X(S).
In the experience mentioned by Randel Reiss, it is visible that he was working on the titles. Lost Boys Interactive was a developer that worked as a support studio on the first Tiny Tina’s Wonderland title as well as titles like WWE 2K23. The last game in the Borderlands franchise, Borderlands 3 came out in the year 2019.
The only game that was released after that was the spin-off titled Tiny Tina’s Wonderland. This was also an action role-playing first-person shooter video game. It was developed by Gearbox Software and was published by 2K. The game followed Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep expansion released in 2013. Tiny Tina’s Wonderland was announced by 2K on June 10, 2021. Now if the leaks are true, we will probably see a sequel to the spin-off.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderland 2 and Borderlands 4 Development Is Most Likely a Good Decision by the Studio
The release of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2 was probably founded on the success that was enjoyed by the first game in the franchise.
In September 2022, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford called the game’s release a “major victory” for the studio. Randy Pitchford also shared this statement during Gearbox parent company Embracer Group’s AGM in 2022:
Wonderlands shattered all of our target expectations, both critically and commercially, and I’m thrilled to report that.. we have established a firm beachhead
This led to Pitchford also saying that the studio had “future experiences” already under development. It was unsure if Randy Pitchford was talking about an expansion, a new title, or something entirely different. But if the leak mentioned above turns out to be true, fans of Tiny Tina’s Wonderland might be in for good news. But the ongoing turmoil at Embracer Group might stall things for both sequels.
Other than that, Borderlands 4‘s predecessor, Borderlands 3 was also a commercial success for the company. The title was 2K’s Fastest-Selling title and sold over 18 million games. This is nine million units shy of the publisher’s highest-selling game, Borderlands 2. While a release date announcement is highly unlikely to occur in the near future since the development hasn’t been announced officially. It will most certainly be good to see the franchises return for another game.
